CENTENARY SPORTS MEDICINE

The Centenary Sports Medicine staff prides itself in providing care that is servant based to Centenary student-athletes. Our staff works hard to evaluate, treat, rehabilitate, assess, and communicate daily with student-athletes and coaches regarding care and the success of the student-athlete in the Athletic Training Room.

The Sports Medicine Team’s goal with every student-athlete encounter is to enrich their lives with the campus values of compassion, integrity, intellectual and moral courage and responsibility with every step in their recovery process on and off the field. We further seek to provide a learning environment through their treatments that produce lives of vitality and help them seek their purpose.

 

FACILITIES

The Centenary athletic training staff maintains the training room housed on the lower level of the Gold Dome. The athletic training room is equipped with a whirl pool, multiple training tables, exercise equipment, an ultra sound machine, e-stim machines.

The facility is staffed by a full-time licensed and certified athletic trainer during normal operating hours at all times.

 

EMERGENCY CARE

In case of emergency at Centenary, patients will be transported to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport- Academic Medical Center. All patients will be transported by ambulance to emergency care facilities.

URGENT CARE

In in the event a student athlete needs a referral for medical treatment that does not need emergency attention the will be directed to Ochsner LSU Health Urgent Care for treatment and diagnosis.

Medical Forms (REQUIRED FOR ALL STUDENTS EACH ACADEMIC YEAR)

All student-athletes who intend on participating in intercollegiate athletics at Centenary College of Louisiana MUST complete medical forms every year. These are completed online using SportsWareOnline.

What you need to know:

  • All student-athletes will need to review the Student-Athlete Handbook
  • All student-athletes need to review the Medical Packet: step-by-step instructions for completing the online submission
  • All student-athletes must complete Front Rush for NCAA Compliance
  • All student-athletes should bring a Centenary Physical Form with the first half completed (up to “Physical Examination”) to the Physical Date with our Team Physicians.
    • If you cannot attend any of our 2 physical dates, you are responsible for completing your physical on a Centenary Physical Form. The form must be completed by a DO, MD, NP, PA. Chiropractors are not allowed.

This process, in full, must be completed by August 1st. No intercollegiate athletic participation (including pre-season or off-season strength and conditioning sessions) will be permitted until all requirements are fulfilled.

 TEAM PHYSICIANS

 

 

 

Patrick Massey, MD, MBA 

Dr. Massey completed residency at LSU Health Shreveport in Shreveport where he was trained in a high level of care for polytrauma patients. After residency, he completed a sports medicine fellowship at Houston Methodist with exposure to 4 professional sports teams. Dr. Massey came back to Shreveport and worked as the Director of Sports Medicine for Willis-Knighton Hospital System where he cared for athletes at Centenary College and LSU-S and local area high schools. He also worked on the Pediatric Sports Medicine team at the Shriner’s Hospital for Children to care for complex congenital ankle, knee, hip and shoulder problems and injuries. Teaching medical students and training residents has long been a mission of Dr. Massey, so he joined the LSU Health Shreveport Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. His current focus is caring for patients, cutting edge research and training future orthopaedic surgeons. His areas of practice include cartilage repair and regeneration, meniscus repair and preservation, rotator cuff repair, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) repair and reconstruction, multi-ligamentous knee reconstruction, hip arthroscopy, shoulder arthroscopy, elbow arthroscopy, knee arthroscopy, and ankle arthroscopy.

 

 

 

 

Dr. Seidenberg

 

 

 

Dr. Peter H. Seidenberg, MD, MA, FAAFP, FACSM, RMSK
Dr. Peter Seidenberg is the Professor and Chair of Family Medicine at LSU Health Shreveport since May 2020. Before coming to Shreveport, he served as the Professor of Family Medicine and Orthopaedics as well as the sports medicine fellowship director at Penn State University. At Penn State Dr. Seidenberg was the head team physician for all the NCAA sanctioned sports. Seidenberg is internationally known for sports medicine especially in the areas of concussion, injury prevention, and the care of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Dr.  Charles Webb, DO, CAQSM, FAMSSM, FAAFP
Dr. Webb is a Primary Care Sports Medicine and Family Medicine physician at Ochsner LSU Heath Shreveport. He is an Associate Professor and Director, Division of Sports Medicine within the Department of Family Medicine at LSU Health Shreveport. Dr. Webb served 9 years as the Portland State University and Lewis and Clark College team physician covering all sports. While in Oregon he founded and directed the sports medicine program for OHSU Portland, OR. Dr. Webb is internationally known for sports medicine especially in the areas of concussion, low back pain, injury prevention, and osteopathic manipulation.
