Diamond Gents Fall to East Texas Baptist, 11-4

MARSHALL, Texas -The Gents rallied from a 2-0 deficit to take a 3-2 lead, but the Tigers scored seven unanswered as Centenary (7-3) fell to East Texas Baptist (10-7) 11-4 Monday night, March 5.

After giving up a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, Centenary took a brief lead in the top of the third. With one out, freshman Peyton Cormane and junior Andrew Russell walked. After a double steal, freshman Chris Haggard reached on an error that scored a run and cut the deficit in half. After another run scored to tie the game, a two-out, RBI single by senior Ian Graham gave Centenary the lead.

The Gents scored their final run of the game with a two-out, RBI single by Russell in the eighth.

Russell and Graham led Centenary offensively with two hits in four at-bats and an RBI. Russell also scored a run.

After Centenary took a brief lead in the top of the third, East Texas Baptist scored three in the bottom of the frame to take the advantage for good. With two outs and runners at the corners, Landen Barns singled to tie the game. After a stolen base put a pair of runners into scoring position, Zachary McAdams put the Tigers into the lead with a two-RBI double.

The Tigers added six in the seventh to seal the win.

Barns led East Texas Baptist with three hits in four at-bats with two runs scored and an RBI. McAdams only went 1-for-2, but scored a run and tallied three RBIs.

Derrick Findley (1-0) took the win for the home team, allowing two hits in 2.1 innings of work. Senior Jackie Allen (0-1) took the loss for the Gents, allowing three runs on three hits with a pair of strikeouts in three innings of work.

Centenary returns to action this weekend with five games in California. First up for the Gents is a match-up with La Verne Friday, March 9, at 4:30 p.m. (2:30 p.m. PST).
