Lavergne Grabs First SCAC Pitcher of the Week Honor of Career

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Senior Cole Lavergne was named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career Monday afternoon, April 9.

In three appearances last week, Lavergne picked up a win and save in six innings in relief. He struck out seven and allowed just one hit.

In a doubleheader Saturday in game one, he entered in the top of the eighth with a runner on second. Although the run scored on a two-out hit, Lavergne pitched a 1-2-3 ninth. The Gents scored a run in the bottom of the ninth of game two for the walk-off, 6-5 win.

In game two against the Pirates, he entered with a pair of runners on and no outs in the seventh. After a pop out, he recorded a pair of strikeouts to end the Southwestern threat. Lavergne threw three perfect innings with five strikeouts for his fifth save of the season.

In the series opener Thursday night, he entered with the bases loaded and no outs in the top of the ninth. After allowing an RBI groundout, he tallied a pair of strikeouts to end the game.

For the season, Lavergne ranks second in the SCAC and 19th in the country with five saves. Lavergne also sits 130th in the nation with a 1.98 ERA.

From the plate, Lavergne went 4-for-11 with three RBI's and two runs scored in the Gents sweep of Southwestern.

Centenary returns to action for its final road games of the season this weekend at Texas Lutheran. First pitch of the three-game set is scheduled for Friday night, April 13, at 7 p.m.
