Softballâ??s Margeaux Smith, Baseballâ??s Charlie Allbritton Named Lady and Gent of the Year

SHREVEPORT, La. - Centenary Ladies Softball junior Margeaux Smith and junior Gents baseball player Charlie Allbritton were named the second Lady and Gent of the Year at the annual athletics picnic Wednesday afternoon, April 18.

The Lady and Gent of the Year awards annually recognize the male and female athlete who best exemplifies perseverance, character, and determination in everything they do. According to the award language, the Lady and Gent of the Year Award highlights athletes who "give positive support and encouragement throughout the school year in practices and competition on campus and in the community."

The Centenary Student-Athlete Advisory set up the award criteria and every athletic team put forth a nominee. All student-athletes voted on the slate of nominees. Athletes were ineligible to vote for an athlete on their own team.

Smith has appeared in 31 games this season, including nine appearances in the circle. She has a 4-2 record with a save and a team-leading 3.03 ERA. This past weekend against Dallas, she hit her first collegiate home runs while also picking up a pair of wins. Smith also threw her first career complete game in Centenary's 9-1 win in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday.

"Margeaux is one of the leaders on our team. She is well respected, dependable, and always willing to help others," said softball head coach Mark Suire. "She's the definition of a true student-athlete. Margeaux has represented herself and the softball in here time at Centenary."

Allbritton has played in 14 games for Gents baseball, primarily as a pinch runner. He has one hit in five at-bats and two runs scored - none bigger in the bottom of the ninth in the Gents 6-5 win against Southwestern on April 7.

"Charlie is so deserving of this award. His work ethic, team first attitude, and passion for Centenary has been a blessing. He truly exemplifies what it means to be a Gent," said head baseball coach Mike Diaz.
