Diamond Gents Drop Weekend Finale at East Texas Baptist

MARSHALL, Texas – The Gents managed to outhit the Tigers, but a four-run first by the home team held as Centenary (2-2) fell to East Texas Baptist (2-1) 7-0 in the series finale Sunday afternoon, February 10.

Senior Andrew Russell led the Gents with three hits while sophomore Peyton Cormane added two. Freshman Kason King took the loss in his first collegiate decision, allowing two hits and three runs in 0.1 innings of work.

The Tigers scored four in the first to open an early lead. After a leadoff hit-by-pitch, Casey Combs doubled to put a pair in scoring position. After a sacrifice fly, Seth Mikeska hit a two-run home run. After singles and a balk, Ford Spigener added an RBI on a groundout for the final out of the inning.

Combs finished with a double and a solo home run in five at-bats with two runs scored and two RBIs. Call Florence (1-0) picked up the win, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out three in an inning pitched.

Centenary returns to action Tuesday afternoon, February 12, at Millsaps. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
