Ladies Gymnastics Second on Beam, Finishes Fourth at UIC Quad

CHICAGO – The Centenary Gymnastics Team finished fourth with a 181.800 total at the UIC Quad Sunday afternoon, January 13. Host UIC won the meet with a 194.200 while Kent State received a 191.250. UW-Osh Kosh took third with a 185.750.

The Ladies turned in a 47.700 on beam to finish second on the apparatus to the hosts, besting Osh Kosh (47.400) and Kent State (47.225). Besting Osh Kosh on floor (47.025-46.850), Centenary finished with a 45.950 on vault and 41.125 on bars.

Senior Navia Jordan was the highest finisher for the Ladies on the night, receiving a 9.700 on beam to finish sixth in the most competitive event of the night (and the highest non-UIC finisher). Jordan also placed seventh on floor with a 9.650.

College Gym News produced a live blog during the meet and said this about Jordan's performances:

Beam - "Jordan (CC): Her toes are a thing of dreams. Front aerial + back tuck, lost the connection a bit. Split + straddle 1/4, good splits! Gainer full, stuck!"

Floor - "Jordan (CC): Double pike, great landing. Switch ring + ring 1/1. She's so engaging. Couldn't see her combo pass, but she landed well. Front aerial. If you could all see her FACE amazing performance. Rudi + straddle MASSIVE. Oh. My. Yes."

Senior Tavia Smith took fourth in the all-around with a 36.850, with her best event coming on beam (9.575).

Centenary returns to action next Saturday, January 19, for its first home meet of the season. The Ladies take on UW-Eau Claire, with first rotation set for 6 p.m.
