Sanders Breaks 38 in All-Around as Ladies Gymnastics Finishes Second at Texas Woman’s Quad

DENTON, Texas –The Ladies Gymnastics Team received season best scores on 3-of-4 events while freshman Kendall Sanders broke 38 to finish second in the all-around as Centenary took second at the Texas Woman's quad meet Sunday afternoon, January 27.

Centenary finished the meet with a 189.950 to finish tied for second with Wisconsin-Stout. The host Pioneers won the meet with a 194.300 total, while Wisconsin-La Crosse placed fourth with a 187.350.

The Ladies made a statement early with a season high total on beam, finishing with a 48.275 and counting no falls. Freshman Kendall Sanders received a big collegiate best average of 9.600 – more than three tenths better than in the first two meets – to lead off the afternoon for the Ladies. Sophomore Jerrica Harris went second, continuing the score building with a career best 9.700. After senior Elizabeth Sander received a season best of 9.575, the Ladies finished the apparatus strong. Junior Cami Bea Austin received a 9.650 before senior Navia received a season best 9.750.

On beam, Jordan finished fourth with Harris (eighth) and Austin (ninth) rounding out the top-10 finishers for the Ladies on the event.

Jordan (9.775) and Sanders (9.650) both recorded season highs on floor, finishing third and seventh, respectively. Centenary finished 47.300 as a team on floor.

The Ladies broke 47 on vault for the first time in 2019, finishing with a 47.025 total. Austin matched a career high and finished fourth on vault with a 9.650.

The Ladies concluded the afternoon on its hardest event of the season, and all they proceeded to do on bars was record their second highest event score of the competition and easily received their season best with a 47.350. Two Ladies finished top-10, including a big collegiate best from Sanders with a 9.700. Senior Tavia Smith placed 10th, receiving a 9.600.

Sanders also took second in the all-around with a 38.275 total.

The hosts swept all event titles, including a win on beam (9.875) and on floor (9.850) for Erin Alderman.

Centenary returns to action with a pair of meets next weekend in the Gold Dome. The Ladies host a tri-meet with Gustavus Adolphus and Texas Woman's on Friday, February 1, before concluding the weekend with another meet against Gustavus Adolphus on Sunday, February 3.
