Centenary Basketball Announces 2017-18 Slate

SHREVEPORT, La. - Centenary Gents and Ladies basketball announced the 2017-18 schedule Tuesday, September 12.

"The Ladies will have a very challenging schedule with 24 of our 25 games against Division III opponents," said Ladies second year head coach David Foley. "It will continue to be a focus of this program moving forward to compete against the highest quality of Division III programs in the south on a consistent basis to prepare us for SCAC play."

The slate includes 11 home games for each team (East Texas Baptist, Millsaps, Johnson and Wales and LeTourneau as well as every Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference team), as well as four games for the Ladies (Hendrix and Trinity twice) and two for the Gents (Texas Lutheran twice) against squads that made the 2017 NCAA Division III tournament.

"I am looking forward to the 2017-18 season as we have a very competitive schedule," said Gents first year head coach Chris Dorsey. "This year's schedule signifies a step forward for our men's basketball program. More than half of our games are on the road, which includes a non-conference contest against NCAA Division I University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM). Our non-conference schedule will challenge our team and fully prepare us for SCAC competition."

The schedule kicks off on Wednesday, November 15, when regional rival East Texas Baptist visits the Gold Dome for a Gents and Ladies doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m. Both Centenary teams will then travel to Austin College for the third annual SCAC/Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Challenge to take on Millsaps November 18 and Hendrix November 19.

It will be the first of two-straight games against Hendrix for the Ladies as they travel to Conway, Arkansas, to face off against the 2017 SAA Tournament Champions on November 25. The Gents take on the Warriors in Arkansas December 3.

Meanwhile, while the Ladies are in Arkansas on November 25, the Gents will host LeTourneau. The Ladies host the YellowJackets for a standalone game December 7.

Both Centenary teams will finish November on the road, as the Gents travel to Pineville to take on rival Louisiana College on the 27th. Meanwhile, the Ladies travel to UT Tyler on the 29th.

Future SCAC member Johnson and Wales visits the Gold Dome to take on Centenary in a doubleheader on Friday, December 1. The Ladies travel to Dallas Christian for the third consecutive year on December 4 while the Gents take on Concordia in Dallas December 9. Both teams host Millsaps December 16.

The Ladies finish off non-conference play by taking on Oglethorpe on December 18 and Birmingham-Southern on December 19 in Atlanta. The Gents play their final non-conference game against ULM in Monroe, Louisiana, on December 20.

Both teams close out 2017 when they host Austin College for the SCAC opener on December 30.

The rest of the schedule feature doubleheaders with the Gents playing first. The rest of the home conference schedule includes: Texas Lutheran on January 5, Southwestern on January 7, Trinity on January 26, Schreiner on January 27, Dallas on February 2, and Colorado College on February 3. Centenary travels to Dallas January 12, Colorado College January 14, Trinity January 19, Schreiner January 20, Texas Lutheran February 9, Southwestern February 10, and Austin College February 17.

Colorado College, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, hosts the SCAC Tournament February 23-25.
