The Opening Tip

  • Centenary (5-2) looks to extend its three-game winning streak Saturday when it travels to Concordia (4-3).
  • During the three-game winning streak, the Gents have shot better than 50 percent from the field. They never eclipsed that mark in the first four games of the season. They also have only 10.7 turnovers per game in that span, including only five against Louisiana College.
  • Senior Travion Kirkendoll sits seventh in the country with 25.7 points per game. After back-to-back 30+ point games last week, he was named to the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week and voted the HeroSports Division 3 Men's Player of the Week.

Last Game against Concordia

The Tornados and Gents last met on the court November 28, 2011. However, the only remaining link between the contest six years ago and this year is Concordia's head coach Stan Bonewitz.

It was a high-scoring affair, as both teams were tied at 47 heading into halftime. However, the Gents could not overcome 26 turnovers and the Tornados 29-18 edge in points off of miscues in the 98-89 loss. Maxx Nakwaash led the Maroon and White with 37 points. Darius Anderson came off the bench for 29 points for Concordia.

The Series with Concordia

Centenary and Concordia first met on the court for the 1984-85 season, with the Gents picking up an 89-71 win. They also met two seasons following, once again in Shreveport, with the Gents winning 126-90.

However, after a 25-year hiatus, the two teams met in Austin in November 2011, with the Tornados picking up a 98-89 victory.

In the NCAA Rankings

As a team, the Gents rank in the top-100 in NCAA Division III in multiple categories. Centenary sits 60th in assist/turnover ratio (1.25). The Gents are 59th with 85.4 points per game, 61st with 17 assists per game, and 80th with a 73.7 free-throw percentage.

Individually, senior Travion Kirkendoll is seventh with 25.7 points per game and 13th with 3.14 steals per game. Cedric Harris is 54th in scoring with 21.0 points per game.

Kirkendoll and Harris' 46.7 combined points per game ranks third in the country among scoring duos, behind Grinnell's Vinny Curta and Hannes Krogelnik (55.1) and Eureka's Shea Feehan and Hank Thomas (20.3).

Harris is the only Gent to reach double-digit scoring in every game for the Gents this season.
