Centenary Gents Basketball Falls to ULM, 74-51

MONROE, La. - The Gents held early leads of 10-9 and 13-11, but a cold-shooting end to the first half and a 19-for-29 mark (65.5 percent) from the field in the period paced the Warhawks as Centenary (6-4) fell to ULM (6-5) 74-51 in the final non-conference game of the season for the Gents Wednesday night, December 20.

ULM scored the first five points of the game, but a triple and a rare four-point play by sophomore Jericho Gray tied the game at seven. The Warhawks made a layup, but a sophomore Cedric Harris three gave Centenary its first lead of the game. ULM hit another layup, but Harris drained another three to give Centenary a 13-11 lead at the first media timeout.

Centenary trailed 19-18 before a 10-minute field goal drought and a 28-7 Warhawks run pushed the deficit to double-digits for good as ULM led 47-27 at half.

ULM took a 59-29 lead, but 10 unanswered brought the deficit back to 20. Senior Travion Kirkendoll made a layup and Harris hit a jumper. Kirkendoll made another layup before Harris broke a two-minute scoring drought with a jumper. Matthews capped the run when he was fouled on a three-point attempt, making two from the charity stripe.

Harris scored 17 points while Kirkendoll added 13 in the contest.

ULM led 19-18 before a 22-4 run pushed the lead to double-digits for good. Jordan Harris and Travis Munnings split from the line before Sam McDaniel hit a three. Later with ULM up 26-22, Brandon Newman and Marvin Jean-Pierre hit jumpers and Mcdaniel added a layup. Another Jean-Pierre layup, a Neman three, and fastbreak points off of steals by Jordon Harris and Munnings opened up the 41-22 home team's advantage.

Five Warhawks hit double figures with a double-double by Munnings (19 points and 13 rebounds). McDaniel added 17 while Jean-Pierre scored 12.

Centenary closes out 2017 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference-opener with Austin College. Tip-off in the Gold Dome is set for 4 p.m. on December 30.
