Four Represent Ladies and Gents Athletics on Winter Sportsmanship Teams

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Senior Dyllon Weaver of Gents Basketball, senior Anthony McDonald of Gents Swimming, sophomore Jessi Jordan of Ladies Swimming, and Bre Frierson of Ladies Basketball have been named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Sportsmanship Teams for the winter of 2017-18.

The Centenary representatives include two All-Conference performers, a swimmer who recorded a pair of record swims at the SCAC Swimming Championships, and a player who finished in the top-10 in the conference in three-point field goal percentage.

Frierson represents Ladies Basketball after finishing the season Honorable Mention All-Conference. Frierson, who missed the first seven games of the season, finished 2017-18 with 7.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game while leading the team with a 49.6 field goal percentage. She finished with a pair of double-doubles on the season, including 15 points and 13 rebounds against Austin College (December 30, 2017) and 13 points and 13 boards at Trinity (January 26, 2018).

"I am very proud to have Bre represent our program on the All-Sportsmanship Team. She brings energy and enthusiasm to our team along with a positive competitive spirit," said head coach David Foley.

McDonald wrapped up a very decorated swimming career at the SCAC Championships for the Gents. He holds multiple top-10 swims in the Centenary record books, including in the 100 (second, 58.48) and 200 breaststrokes (fourth, 2:09.76), the 200 IM (sixth, 1:56.01), and as a member of the 800 free relay (fourth, 6:57.93). McDonald also swam for seven All-Conference relay teams and garnered two individual All-Conference nods in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes.

"Every day in practice, you could always depend on Anthony giving his encouragement to his teammates," said Jordan. "Anytime a teammate had to step up and go for a time in practice, you could bet Anthony would be at pool edge yelling for them."

For Ladies Swimming, Jordan etched her name is the career record books twice at the SCAC Championships in February. She swam the fourth-fastest time (2:30.44) time in Ladies history in the 200 breaststroke to finish fourth. In the 100 breaststroke, already with the fifth-fastest mark in the career annals, Jordan improved her best time by more than a second in the pre-lims (1:08.96). She finished sixth in the finals.

"We can depend on Jessi giving 100 percent each and every day, no matter what we throw at her. She thrives on the challenge of practice and competition," said head coach Butch Jordan.

Finally, Weaver completed his Gents basketball career as a key three-point specialist. For his senior campaign in 2017-18, he finished eighth in the SCAC with 39.1 (27-for-69) three-point shooting percentage. He made all four three-pointers taken - and also made his only two-point shot - to finish with a season-best 16 points in the Gents 91-69 win against Pelican State-rival Louisiana College on November 27, 2017.

"All year, Dyllon has shown great leadership as a captain and has been a great teammate on and off the court," said head coach Chris Dorsey. "He always gives 100 percent to the game, he's respectful to his opponents, and competes at the highest level possible. Dyllon is the prime example of what a student-athlete is about and earning a spot on the sportsmanship team has been well deserved."
