Gents Basketball Chosen Second in Preseason SCAC Poll

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - In a close vote by the conference head coaches, the Centenary Gents Basketball team was selected to finish second in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference for the 2018-19 season. The Gents, who received two first-place votes, finished runner-up in both the SCAC Regular Season and Tournament for the 2017-18 season.

By a slim 55-51 margin, Trinity is selected to win the Regular Season title over the Gents. However, Centenary currently holds a 6-game winning streak against the Tigers. Schreiner accumulated 50 points to finish third, while Texas Lutheran was picked fourth with 49 points. Southwestern (41 points) was selected fifth.

After a close vote for the top five, there is a drop-off for 6-9. Dallas (26 points) was selected to take the final spot in the conference tournament. Austin College (19 points), Colorado College (18 points) and SCAC-newcomer Johnson & Wales (15 points) round out the preseason picks.

While Centenary lost Travion Kirkendoll, a four-time All-Conference performer that led the conference with 22.2 points per game, the Gents return junior Cedric Harris (17.3 points per game) and senior Kaharri Carter (10.5 points per game). Harris led the team last season with 6.6 rebounds per game, while Carter added 5.8. Harris was named Second Team All-Conference while Carter received a vote for SCAC Defensive Player of the Year last season.

Centenary opens up the 2018-19 season Saturday afternoon, November 10, when it takes on Hardin-Simmons. Tip is scheduled for 5 p.m. The Gents wrap up preseason Tuesday night at Northwestern State.
