Matthews Named First SCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week of the Season

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – For the second consecutive season, a Centenary Basketball player has been named the initial Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week of the season. For the 2018-19 year, that honor was bestowed upon senior Treylan Matthews for the first time in his career on Monday afternoon, November 12.

Matthews poured in 21 points, 17 of which came in the first half, of the Gents 84-79 season-opening win against Hardin-Simmons Saturday. He shot 7-for-11 from the field – including a 6-for-7 mark from inside the arc – and made all six free throws. He also added six boards, three assists, and two steals.

The Gents win against the Cowboys is the first season-opening win for the Gents in five years.

Centenary returns to action Thursday for its annual Pelican State battle against Louisiana College. The Ladies begin the basketball double header at 5:30 p.m., with the Gents scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m.
