CONWAY, Ark. – The Gents were able to tie the game late after trailing by seven with 2:41 left, but the Warriors used a 25-13 edge in points off turnovers in the win as Centenary (1-2) fell to Hendrix (2-1) 64-62 in the final game of day one of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Association/Southern Athletic Association Classic Saturday night, November 17.

Centenary trailed 60-53 late before a 9-2 run tied the game with 1:18 remaining. A three-point play for senior Kaharri Carter and a traditional three by freshman Ricky Ray pulled Centenary within one with two minutes left. Kam Brasfield answered with a layup for Hendrix, but senior Treylan Matthews buried a three to tie the game with just over a minute left.

Hendrix took the lead with 23 seconds left on a Carl Fitch layup. While the Warriors missed all three free throws down the stretch, the Gents committed two costly turnovers of their own. Hendrix held on for the two-point win.

Carter led Centenary with 18 points while Ray and freshman Kile Mingo scored 10 each. However, Centenary could not overcome 22 turnovers.

The Gents trailed by six at halftime and 35-29 with 17 minutes left. However, Centenary scored seven unanswered to take its lone lead of the second half. Mingo hit a three and a layup, and Ray added a layup for the Gents first lead since 13-11.

However, Hendrix scored eight straight to retake the lead. Jacob Link made a pair from the line and Seth Stanley hit a three. Another three by Sean Coman quickly put Hendrix up 43-36 with 12:25 remaining in the game.

Hendrix held a 35-14 edge in bench points, thanks to 18 points from Coman and 12 from Stanley. Brasfield was the lone Hendrix starter in double figures, scoring 13.

Centenary closes out the weekend Sunday afternoon, November 18, against Millsaps. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
