Aren't You Familiar?

Centenary, looking for its first ever SCAC Tournament title and its first Conference Tournament Championship since 1980, begins its trek when it takes on sixth-seeded Trinity Friday night after the first quarterfinal game at approximately 9 p.m. The winner takes on the host Bulldogs Saturday night in the semifinals at approximately 9 p.m.

This will be the third meeting between the Tigers and Gents this season. Trinity won the first meeting in Shreveport back in December, 67-62, before defeating the Gents 75-73 in San Antonio earlier this month. This is also the third meeting between these two teams in the SCAC Tournament with each team having a win. Trinity defeated Centenary, 82-70, in the Finals of the 2014 SCAC Tournament, while Centenary upended the Tigers, 57-55, in the Quarterfinals of the 2016 tournament in Shreveport.

Both teams come into Friday's action with a pair of players who started that tournament game three years ago. For the Gents, senior Treylan Matthews scored nine points, grabbed nine rebounds, and dished out five assists. Classmate Mitchell Tarantolo contributed a block in limited action. For Trinity, senior Matt Jones scored seven points and added five dimes, while classmate Jayden Holden also added seven points and grabbed four rebounds. Also for Trinity, senior Brian Blum checked in off the bench for a minute of action.

In the SCAC Tournament

Centenary joined the SCAC for the 2012-13 season and are the only team in the conference to appear in the tournament all seven seasons (However, Texas Lutheran joined the SCAC for the 2013-14 season and has appeared in the conference tournament the past six seasons).

Centenary is also 5-0 in the SCAC Tournament when the better seeded team but 0-6 when lower. The Gents are also 2-2 when playing the SCAC Tournament Quarterfinals.

Finally, this is the second time Centenary has ever played in the SCAC Tournament on February 22. In their first ever SCAC Tournament contest on February 22, 2013, fifth-seeded Centenary fell to fourth-seeded Southwestern 74-67.

With a Win

Centenary would take on host Texas Lutheran for the fifth straight year in the SCAC Tournament. Tip-off would be approximately 7 p.m. Saturday. The Bulldogs ended the Gents season from 2015-2017, but Centenary upended Texas Lutheran last season in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
