Men's Golf Fifth After Day One Of Tempest Intercollegiate

Gladewater, Texas – The Centenary men's golf team finished day one of the Tempest Intercollegiate in fifth place on Monday at the Tempest Golf Club in Gladewater, Texas, hosted by LeTourneau University.

The Gents shot rounds of 314-306 for a 620 total and are just 16 shots behind the leaders and host LeTourneau, who fired a 604. Centenary was led on Monday by senior Brodey Warner (Brookeland, Texas) who shot rounds of 79-72 (151) and is tied for seventh place.

The Gents are one of nine schools competing in the 36-hole tournament at the 7,229-yard, par-72 course. The tournament field, in addition to Centenary and LeTourneau, is comprised of: Texas Lutheran, Schreiner, Louisiana College, Belhaven, Jacksonville College, Tyler Junior College and Webster (Mo.).

The Gents are coming off of a team title at the Louisiana College Fall Invitational at Links on the Bayou Golf Course last month. The Maroon and White finished a comfortable 18 shots ahead of second place Mississippi University for Women. The Gents posted a 20-over par 596 for the two-day event. 

Tyler Junior College (second place) sits 10 shots behind the leading YellowJackets and and Texas Luthern (third place) is three strokes behind Tyler. Webster is fourth, one shot behind Tyler and two ahead of the Gents.

Gents freshman Richard Polan is in 14th place after shooting a 155 (81-74). Senior Reed Balcerowicz (Crosby, Texas) is tied for 15th place after posting a 156 (73-83) and Harrison John (Lafayette, La.) shot a 158 (81-77) to tie for 25th place. Shreveport native Taylor Wells (C.E. Byrd) sits in 56th place after shooting a 179 (93-86).

Texas Lutheran's Matthew McArthur is the top individual after the first two rounds after he fired a 4-over par 148 (75-73). The Gents' Warner and Polan are just three and seven shots back of the lead respectively entering Tuesday's final round.
