CJ Seling Named Permanent Head Gents Lacrosse Coach

The Centenary athletic department and Director of Athletics and Recreation Marcus Manning are pleased to announce that CJ Seling has been named the Gents Lacrosse head coach.

"CJ has played an integral part in the process of building the men's lacrosse program at Centenary College, and we're excited he's going to continue as the permanent head coach," said Manning. "CJ has embraced being a change agent for the continued development and growth of lacrosse at Centenary College and within the Shreveport-Bossier community."

Seling, who started with Gents lacrosse as an assistant, has served as the interim head coach for the program since January 2019.

"I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to continue the journey we have started as head coach of the Centenary Gents Lacrosse team," said Seling. "With the addition of our new turf facilities at Mayo Field, and with the investment the school has made in the lacrosse program, it's great to have so much support from the institution. I aim to take the momentum the program has made over the past year and a half and continue to tirelessly commit to growing the team to its maximum potential."

"We are in a phenomenal location and we are only going to continue to improve. I am very excited to be in the position we are in. Lacrosse growth in the south continues to gain momentum and our regional talent is becoming more and more competitive. It is so much fun to see," added Seling.

Before joining the Gents Lacrosse staff, Seling served as the head coach of the Men's Lacrosse team at Louisiana Tech, a Major Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) Division II member. In just the second year of the program, he guided the Bulldogs to a 4-2 conference record, narrowly missing the Lone Star Alliance (LSA) playoffs by a one-goal difference in a loss to Louisiana. The previous season, the Ragin' Cajuns had beaten Louisiana Tech by 17 goals.

A 2004 graduate of ThunderRidge High School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Seling was a member of the first lacrosse graduating class at his school. With the Grizzlies, he received All-State honors in both his junior and senior seasons. Following graduation from ThunderRidge, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was an air traffic controller, earning the rank of Air Traffic Controller Petty Officer, 2nd Class. Following his eight-year enlistment, he worked as an air traffic controller in both Manhattan, Kansas, and Easton, Maryland. Seling studied professional aeronautics from Embry-Riddle University.

In 2015, he moved to Shreveport and began work for the Federal Aviation Administration. "This is where I fell back in love with my first passion; lacrosse," explained Seling. "I began coaching with C. E. Byrd High School as an assistant for two years, focusing on player development."

"I pride myself in training and development of players," said Seling. "I love the challenge of starting a new program, as I have done once as a player and now twice as a Head Coach. With the support of the school and our new facilities, our program is set up for so much success. It's a fun time to be a Gent."
