Lacrosse set to face Southwestern in Home Opener on Sunday

Shreveport- The Centenary lacrosse team will play its first home match of the season on Sunday as the Gents welcome the Southwestern University Pirates to Mayo Field for a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest set for 1 p.m.

The Gents (0-2) lost a pair of non-conference matches on the road to open their season to weeks ago. Centenary fell to Pfeiffer University, 21-2, on Feb. 13 and then lost a hard-fought match to Averett University by a score of 12-5 on Feb. 15. Centenary and Southwestern were originally scheduled to meet on Feb. 21 but the recent winter storm postponed it a week. The Pirates (1-1) lost 20-5 at home to Colorado College on Saturday.

Sophomore Mark Temple (Houston, Texas) matched his career high for goals scored in a single game with four versus Averett. Temple took 13 total shots, six on goal, and had two ground balls. Temple's previous four-goal performance came on Feb. 14, 2020 at LaGrange and he then proceeded to score two more on Feb. 16 at Ogelthorpe. Temple ranks in a tie for second in the SCAC in goals scored and is tied for sixth in goals per game. He is also in a ie for ninth in points per game

Freshman Wikenson Julien (Immokolee, Fla.) added the Gents' fifth goal against Averett, his first-career goal. He is tied for seventh in the league in shots per game. Gents freshman Jacob Miller (Liberty Hill, Texas) ranks first in the SCAC in Man-up-goals per game and fellow freshman Jordan Cook (Bryant, Ark.) currently ranks ninth in shots per game.

Centenary had 35 grounds balls to the Cougars' 31 and the Gents went 21-25 on clears. The Cougars finished with a slight edge in shots, 43-40. Senior Goalie Thomas Siskron (Shreveport) played solid game as he recorded 15 saves. Siskron now has 33 saves in Centenary's two games this season and 114 in his career. He currently ranks second in the nation in saves per game and leads the SCAC in that category. He ranks fifth in both save percentage and goals against average. 

Centenary hits the road again after Sunday's home opener for a non-conference match at Hendrix on March 4 at 7 p.m.
