Lacrosse Defeats Dallas on Senior Day, 7-4

Shreveport - The Centenary lacrosse team defeated the University of Dallas Crusaders 7-4 on Sunday afternoon in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Senior Day at Mayo Field as the Gents won for the first time since reestablishing as a varsity program.

The Gents (1-4) scored their most goals in a game since scoring eight versus Hilbert on March 8, 2020. Centenary scored seven or more goals in a game three times last season. Dallas fell to 0-1 on the season as Sunday was its season opener.

Centenary dominated statistically as the Gents held a decisive 56-13 advantage in shots. The Maroon and White collected 24 ground balls to 13 for Dallas. The Crusaders committed 30 turnovers while Centenary had just 14. Freshman midfielder Matt Lamoreaux (Bethesda, Md.) won 6 of 12 face offs. Dallas went 8-17 on clears while Centenary was a perfect 6-6.

Centenary goalkeeper Thomas Siskron (Shreveport) played all 60 minutes and collected seven saves. Siskron, honored after the game in a Senior Day ceremony along with his teammate Ahnry Avina (Dallas, Texas), now has 79 saves this season and an impressive 194 career saves. He entered the game tied for third in the nation in saves per game and the leader in the SCAC in that category. He ranks in the top five in both save percentage and goals against average in the conference and first in save percentage.

Dallas scored the game's first goal as Matt Senter scored an unassisted goal with 11:11 remaining in the first period. The Crusaders' Austin Gibbons then scored to make it 2-0 on an assist from Senter. The Gent's offense then kicked it into gear as they scored the next seven goals to go up comfortably, 7-2, late in the fourth quarter.

Freshman midfielder Jacob Miller (Liberty Hill, Texas) scored at the 13:12 mark of the second quarter to cut the Dallas lead to 2-1 on an unassisted goal. Three minutes later sophomore MF Dario Garcia (Dallas, Texas) scored off an assists from sophomore Mark Temple (Houston, Texas) to tie the game at 2-2.

A minute later, at the 8:21 mark of the second quarter, Temple found the back of the net to give the Gents the lead. Miller scored for the second time in the game with 2:40 remaining before the half for a 4-2 lead with an assist credited to Temple.

Centenary took a 4-2 lead into halftime and then wasted no time in getting back on the scoreboard again as Temple scored again just two and a half minutes into the second half with an assist from freshman Jordan Cook (Bryant, Ark.).

Sophomore Kyle Comi (Allen, Texas) scored with 2:20 left in the third on an another assist from Temple. Cook scored the Gents' seventh and final goal with 3:09 remaining in the game to make it 7-2. Dallas scored a pair of quick goals within a minute to make it 7-4 as Senter scored his second and third goals of the game.

Dallas goalie Michael White played the entire match and made 24 saves and allowed all seven goals. Senter had three goals and an assist. John Reynolds went 6-12 on face-off opportunities and had three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Comi led the Gents with seven ground balls, Garcia had four, and Miller recorded three. Cook, Lamoreaux, sophomore Chris Dant (Bossier City), and freshman Noah Katz (Las Vegas, Nev.) each had two. Sophomore Ethan Little (Tyler, Texas) had a game-high seven caused turnovers and freshman Matthew Lulich (New Orleans) had four. Cool, Comi, Dant, and Katz combined for nine CT's.

Temple scored his sixth and seventh goals of the season and tallied his first three assists. Miller continued his superb freshman season with his second and third goals of the season and recorded his first-multi-goal game. Cook scored for the third time on the season and recorded his first assist. Comi found the net for the first this season and Garcia scored his second goal of the season.

The Gents will be back on the road this weekend as they will face the Huntingdon College Hawks in Montgomery, Ala. on Friday, March 12 at 7 p.m. Centenary will face Hendrix in its final home game of the season on March 18 at 7 p.m.
