Gents Soccer Falls to Austin College, 4-0

SHREVEPORT, La. – Despite being outshot 10-5 in the first half, the Gents kept the pressure on with a 4-1 advantage in shots on goals. However, the skies opened up and the 'Roos scored four second half goals as Centenary (1-8-1, 0-7-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Austin College (3-2-2, 2-2-1 SCAC) 4-0 Tuesday night, September 25.

The first half and about 12 minutes of the second half was contested at Mayo Field. However, because of the weather and playing conditions, the final 33 minutes were played at C.E. Byrd High School.

A foul in the 12th minute in the Gents offensive end led to a header by freshman Wil Escobar in the 13th minute, but the 'Roos defense cleared the ball for to keep the game scoreless. In the game, Austin College made three defensive stops in the six saves total.

The rain started before the end of the first half and continued into the second. Austin College scored shortly before the suspension of play on a short corner and goal by Owen Osagide. The suspension of play came in the 57th minute as the action was moved to Byrd High School.

Play resumed with a free kick for the 'Roos near the right corner flag. Juan Ramirez centered a cross and Phillip Le scored just three seconds into the resumption of play. Le went on to score another goal and Ramirez netted the final goal of the game.

Centenary freshman goalie Sami Borchalli grabbed four saves on eight shots faced, while Joseph Khalaf grabbed all three shots faced for Austin College.

The Gents return to action Friday afternoon, September 28, when it hosts Colorado College. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
