Gents Soccer Drops Heartbreaker in Double Overtime to Johnson & Wales

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Gents outshsot their opponent 24-22, including 10-8 in shots on goal, but the Wildcats made the most of their only shot on target in the second overtime with the golden goal as Centenary (1-10-1, 0-9-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Johnson & Wales (4-4-1, 2-4-1) 1-0 (2OT) on a rainy Sunday afternoon, September 30, at Mayo Field.

The Gents saw a great opportunity to score shortly in the first overtime spoiled by the Wildcats defense. Sophomore Gin Pau played a ball right of the goal near the end line into the center of the box, but Johnson & Wales cleared the ball to prevent the winning score.

Pau led the Gents with six shots for the game, four of which were on goal.

Johnson & Wales scored the winner in the 109th minute. After Centenary sophomore Greg Petreas' shot was blocked, the Wildcats reversed the field. Kyler Fowkes centered the ball in the box and Kevin Zazueta went right post for the game winner.

Johnson & Wales saved all 10 shots faced, including nine saves by Brandon Coder. Centenary freshman goalie Sami Borchalli grabbed seven saves.

Centenary returns to action Tuesday night, October 2, with a non-conference, Pelican State showdown at Louisiana College. Kickoff is approximately 7 p.m., shortly after the Ladies and Wildcats game scheduled for 5 p.m.
