Centenary Men's Soccer Team Opens Season with 1-0 win

Shreveport - The Centenary men's soccer team opened its 2019 regular season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the LeTourneau YellowJackets on Tuesday evening at Mayo Field.

The Gents (1-0) played for the first time this season after their season opener at ETBU was cancelled by severe weather back on Aug. 30. Centenary had not seen any action since a 2-0 exhibition win over LSU-Alexandria at home last month.

Freshman midfielder Andres Bautista (Houston, Texas/Cypress Springs HS) scored the lone goal for the Gents on Tuesday, knocking the ball into the net past the YellowJackets' keeper Diego Berlingeri in the 25th minute of the first half.

The Centenary defense stood strong all evening to keep LeTourneau (1-1-2) off the scoreboard. Agressive play by both sides led to a flurry of yellow cards and one red card in the second half.

Each team collected 17 shots on the night and Centenary GK Sami Borchalli (Lafayette, La./Lafayette HS) made 10 saves in a sparkling defensive performance in goal.

Centenary hits the road this weekend for a pair of conference matches. The Gents will face Colorado College on Friday at 7 p.m. mountain time (8 p.m. local) and then square off with Johnson and Wales Sunday at 1 p.m. mountain time (2 p.m. local). #CTheOpportunity
