Men's Soccer Falls, 6-1, To Texas Lutheran In SCAC Play

Shreveport - The Centenary men's soccer team fell 6-1 to the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Friday night at a frigid Mayo Field.

Four Gents; Scott Halper (Franklin Lakes, N.J.), Rolando Hernandez (Arlington, Texas), Jeff Mallernee (Keller, Texas), and Gabe Rodriguez (Bossier City) were honored in a special pregame Senior Night ceremony.

The Gents (8-7, 3-5 SCAC) are currently sixth in the conference standings, just a half game behind fifth-place Southwestern (3-4-1) and a half game ahead of Dallas (2-5-1).The top six teams in the conference qualify for the 2019 SCAC Men's Soccer Championship, to take place Nov. 8-10 in San Antonio and hosted by Trinity University. Matchups and seeds will be determined after Sunday's games. Centenary ironically plays host to Southwestern on Sunday in the regular-season finale. The Gents are an impressive 7-2 at Mayo Field this season. Southwestern lost at St. Thomas on Friday by a score of 2-0 while Dallas was blanked at Trinity, 5-1. Dallas is at Schreiner (3-13-1, 1-6-0 SCAC) on Sunday. 

Texas Lutheran improved to 12-5 and 6-2 in SCAC play and currently sits in second place in the league standings.Colorado College (13-5, 8-1 SCAC) is first in the standings heading into Sunday's action. The Gents scored a shutout  of Colorado College, 2-0, back on Oct. 6 at home. Freshman Marco Basteris (Katy, Texas) scored his first career goal on Friday for the lone Gents score.
