Gents Fall In Tense 2-0 Battle To Southwestern

Shreveport – The Centenary men's soccer team fell 2-0 in a tense, physical match to the Southwestern University Pirates on Sunday afternoon in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at Mayo Field.

The Gents (3-6-2, 0-3 SCAC) and Pirates (7-1-3, 3-1 SCAC) battled to a scoreless draw at the half and then Raghav Sharma's fifth goal of the season in the 49^th minute off of a corner kick from Michael Grimm made it 1-0 Southwestern.

Centenary shook off a disappointing 5-0 loss to nationally-ranked Texas Lutheran University on Friday night, and went toe to toe with the Pirates on Sunday. Southwestern took 13 shots in the first half to seven for Centenary, and each team took three corner kicks.

Gents' junior GK Casey Clemo (Forney, Texas) made his first start in nearly a month and showed no signs of rust as he played all 90 minutes and made three first-half saves to keep the Pirates off the scoreboard. Clemo, who was roughed up on two separate plays within a few minutes of each other late in the match, made five more critical saves in the second half to give him eight on the afternoon, one away from his season-high of nine against Birmingham-Southern back on Sept. 16. Brendan Prather also went the distance for the Pirates and made six saves.

The Pirates finished with 25 shots to 10 for the Gents. Each team took six corner kicks and there were 19 fouls called in the match, 10 given to the Pirates and nine to the Gents. Four yellow cards were issues – all four to the Pirates.

The Gents will now hit the road for three-straight SCAC matches beginning with a contest on Friday night at the University of Dallas (1-7-3, 0-2-1 SCAC) set for 7 p.m. in Irving, Texas.
