Butch Jordan begins his 23rd year with the Centenary men's and women's swimming program in 2023-24.

Jordan, who begins his fourth season as assistant coach, served as head coach of the Maroon and White for 19 seasons, as he guided the Ladies and Gents since the inception of the program beginning with the 2001-02 season until the 2019-20 season. Jordan is no stranger to the swimming community as he has served as the head coach of the City of Shreveport Swim Team since 1975.

In his 19 years as head coach, the numbers are staggering. Between the Ladies and Gents, Centenary amassed 15 individual and five relay conference champions, 119 All-Conference individual and 28 All-Conference relay performances and 20 Mid Continent/Summit League/Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimmers of the Week, and an impressive 254 Academic All-Conference honorees. Three swimmers still hold top-5 times in the history of the SCAC Championships through the 2021-22 season: Ross Olivier for the Gents in 2013 (200 backstroke, 1:49.86) owns the second-fastest time, and Rachel Olson in 2014 (200 butterfly, 2:06.02) hold the third-fastest time while she touched the wall in the fourth-fastest time (2:07.16) in the 200 IM in 2014.

Jordan led the Gents to five-straight runner-up finishes in the Mid-Con/Summit League from 2007-2011 (despite not having a diving team) and captured Coach of the Year honors three times (2004-05 and 2006-07 in the Mid-Continent Conference, 2009-10 in the Summit League).

Last season, the Ladies placed seventh and earned 221 points while the Gents also finished seventh as they tallied 73 points. Sophomore Madeline Vacula (Belton, Texas) highlighted Centenary’s season as she earned All-SCAC honors for the second season in a row and won the 1650 free at the conference championships in a personal-best time of 17:55.66. The super sophomore now owns 24 individual wins in her career with 17 coming this past season. Her 1650 time is the second-fastest in school history (D1 or D3) and she also owns all-time top-10 times in the 500 free and 1,000 free. She was named the SCAC Women's Swimmer of the Week once during the past season.

Centenary had five seniors swim this past season - senior Isabella Brown (Metairie, La.), senior Christine Goodman (Alexandria, La.), senior Katie Malicoat (Wichita, Kan.), senior Camryn Hebert (Youngsville, La.), and senior Bryn Jenkins (Houston, Texas).

Goodman was named the Ladies' representative on the 2022-23 SCAC Winter All-Sportsmanship Team, Jenkins was named the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete of the Week which recognizes the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Goodman, Hebert, and Jenkins were each named to the 2022-23 Academic All-District® Women's Swimming & Diving Team by the College Sports Communicators. The team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom.

The Ladies finished fourth at the 2022 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships in Garland, Texas and earned 363 points for the event. The Gents, meanwhile, finished seventh at the SCAC Championships, earning 173 points.

Vacula and senior Brianna Serret (Alexandria, La.) highlighted the final day of competition for Centenary as they each earned all-conference honors and Serret was named the 2022 SCAC Women's Swimming & Diving Elite 19 award winner. Serret recorded 11 individual wins this past season and earned all-conference honors for the second season in a row. Last season as a junior she won the 100 back at the SCAC Championships with a time of 59.29, marking the program's first individual win in the event and just the third individual win by a Centenary women's swimmer at the SCAC Championships since the Maroon and White joined the conference prior to the 2012-13 season. Serret also earned additional all-conference honors in two other events - the 100-fly, as she finished third with a time of 58.30 and in the 200-yard medley relay, as her team placed third with a time of 1:51.42.

Six Gents claimed wins against Austin College on Jan. 29 in their final home meet of the season and also won the 200 free relay.

He was also named the 2021 SCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Elite 19 award winner at the conclusion of the meet. Serret, Kaylin Swoboda, Mitchell Lulich, and Vasquez were each named All-SCAC.

The 2019-20 season was another successful one for the Maroon and White. The Ladies placed fourth overall at the 2020 SCAC Championships while the Gents finished fifth. Highlights of the season were 10 new all-time program individual records being set (three for Gents and seven for Ladies) as sophomore Briana Serret set four herself, and sophomore Ricky LaFleur setting all three Gents’ records, Serret being named the SCAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week on December 11, and 17 Ladies and Gents being named to the 2020 SCAC Winter Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll.

For the 2018-19 season, Centenary received a huge boost from a big freshmen class and it immediately showed. For the season, there were five individual (Brianna Serret in the 100 and 200 backstrokes, Kaylin Swoboda in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, and Miguel Vasquez in the 100 backstroke) and four relay (Ladies 800 freestyle relay and the Gents in the 200 and 400 medley relays and the 800 freestyle relays) All-Conference performances. In addition, the Gents 200 freestyle relay team of Eddie Dyess, Mitchell Lulich, Blake Smith, and Vasquez captured the first conference event championship in five years and the first relay championship in six.

With countless top-10 performances, Kaylin Swoboda in the 100 breaststroke and Miguel Vasquez in the 100 backstroke broke long-standing Centenary swimming records.

In the first year in the SCAC in 2012-13, Ross Olivier garnered Men's Swimmer of the Championship honors after he won the 200 back and 200 IM. He also finished runner-up to teammate Michael Schwandt in the 100 backstroke.

In 2010, Jordan garnered Summit League Coach of the Year honors after he guided junior Devin Ross to a Conference Championship in the 50 Free in 2011 with a time of 20.31. Ross also competed in the Olympic Trials in 2012. For the season as a team, the Gents not only excelled in the pool as Summit League Runner-Ups, but in the classroom after the Gents were named Summit League's Top Men's Swimming Team academically with 48 percent of its squad named to the Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence.

The Gents also finished with the highest GPA among male athletic teams at Centenary in 2013-14, 2014-15, and 2016-17.

On the Ladies side, Maggie Vaughan was named the Summit League Newcomer of the Year in 2006-07 after winning the 500 and 1650 free Conference Championship. She followed that up with a win in the 1650 free at the Conference Championships the following year.

Jordan was instrumental in Olympic gold medalist, Cullen Jones' visit to Centenary in November 2010 where he spoke on behalf of "Make a Splash w/ Cullen Jones," a foundation to help prevent drowning amongst the youth.

Leading the Gents to a third-place finish in the 2004-05 Mid-Continent Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, Jordan was selected as the Mid-Con Men's Coach of the Year. He was also picked as the conference coach of the year following the 2006-07 season as well.
