Joseph Moses Jr. enters his third season as head coach of the Centenary men's and women's track and field and cross-country programs, having been appointed to the position in October 2021. Before this appointment, he served at Simpson University in Redding, Calif, Xavier University in New Orleans from 2004-18, Charleston Southern University from 2001-03, and Independence Community College, an NJCAA institution in Independence, Kan., from 2000-01.

Moses Jr. helped lead the Gents to a sixth-place finish at the conference championships last season while the Ladies placed seventh. The Gents were paced all season by junior Xavier Venious (Bossier City, La.) as he capped his impressive campaign by being named All-West Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Venious was honored as one of the region's top-five individuals in the 400-Meter Hurdles. He was named to the 2023 SCAC All-Sportsmanship Team following the season.

The Ladies finished seventh at the SCAC Championships as freshman Shinaya Branch (Jonesboro, La.) had the Ladies' best individual finish of the day and weekend as she placed sixth in the Long Jump (4.68 m). Junior Maddie Schonberg (Harbor City, Calif.) and sophomore Aubrey Salazar (San Antonio, Texas) each earned top-15 finishes in the Women's Discus Throw as Schonberg threw a distance of 24.48 and Salazar 23.88. In the Shot Put, Schonberg finished 11th (9.71 m) and Salazar was 17th (7.96 m). Freshman Olivia Sepulvado (Zwolle, La.) finished 18th in the Women's 400 Meter Dash (1:18.94) and freshman Julianna Malloy (Dallas, Texas) finished 14th in the 100 Meter Hurdles (17:99) and 19th in the Women's 100 Meter Dash (13.78). Senior Veronica Dougherty (McAllen, Texas) finished 21st in the 1500 Meter Run (6:01.22). Dougherty earned a 22nd-place finish in the 800 Meter Run (2:49.07) and Malloy finished 22nd in the 200 Meter Dash (29.13). Freshman Lauren Castillo (Keller, Texas) finished 26th in the 800 (3:11.74). Dougherty was named to the 2023 SCAC All-Sportsmanship Team following the season.

Moses Jr.'s first year with the Maroon and White was an outstanding success - sophomore Devante' Jack (Jena, La.) ran a conference record time of 1:52.37 for 800m at the 2022 SCAC Championships in San Antonio, becoming the first individual ever from Centenary to win an event at these championships while competing against teams comprised mainly of Division I athletes - His run placed him 15th overall among all Division III runners nationwide that season. He narrowly missed out on NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships qualification but earned accolades as SCAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week following his victory at the conference meet. He also earned the SCAC Newcomer of The Year Award in 2022. In addition, 11 other individuals recorded top 15 finishes, including eight who achieved top 5 rankings across both genders combined during Moses Jr.'s inaugural season with the Centenary College program.

Moses Jr.'s previous experience is impressive too - He coached 23 conference champions during his stint at Xavier, which led to him being named Louisiana Coach of The Year twice along with twelve GCAC Coach Of The Year titles throughout his tenure there alone - During his time prior to that coaching footballers within NAIA bracket he produced 13 All-Conference student-athletes when working at Charleston Southern University between 2001-03

He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Louisiana State University (1994)
