Ladies Softball Wins Wild Night Cap to Split Doubleheader with Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. – After falling 8-0 in six innings of game one, the Ladies Softball team won a wild second game, 9-8, in nine innings as Centenary (3-8) split a doubleheader at Hendrix (10-3) Sunday afternoon, March 10.

Tied at five after eight innings, the Ladies scored four runs in the ninth to knock off the Warriors in game two. Junior Kaitlyn Price began the inning with a single and advanced to second on senior Margeaux Smith's infield single. Junior Ashley Albright walked to load the bases before senior Wendy Gillet's single pushed across a run. Senior Sydney Hurley drove in another run to put Centenary up a pair. After a strikeout, junior Haley Campbell hit a fly ball that was deep enough to score the third run of the inning on a sacrifice fly. However, the leftfielder dropped it to allow Gillet to score.

The Warriors made things interesting with three runs in the bottom of the ninth, but senior Amberlee Nix got a groundout to record her first save of the season.

Gillet opened the scoring in the first with an RBI double, while Smith, Albright, and sophomore Becca McGough added RBI singles in the second, fifth, and sixth. Gillet added another RBI hit in the seventh.

After a walk put the tying run on base, Jaydan Hunt doubled to left center to tie the game. However, a popup ended the inning and sent the contest to extra innings.

Hunt led the Warriors offensively with two hits in four at-bats, adding four RBI's. Emily Stockalper (3-2) took the loss in relief, allowing four hits and four runs (three earned) in two innings of work.
