Ladies Softball Drops Pair to #15 Texas Lutheran in Regular Season Finale

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies were able to lead after the first inning of both games, but the Bulldogs rallied late for a 6-2 win in game and won the second game 9-1 in six innings as Centenary (15-21, 12-10 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) lost a Senior Day doubleheader to #15 Texas Lutheran (27-7, 21-1 SCAC) Friday afternoon, April 19.

In the first inning of game one, Teri Johnson led off the frame with a walk and scored on Cassie Gonzales' triple. Gillet reached on a fielder's choice that produced no outs and later scored on Erin Lewis' RBI double.

Meanwhile, Amberlee Nix allowed only two hits in the first five innings of work, but two double plays erased both hits. Nix retired the first 15 Bulldogs in order.

However, Texas Lutheran tied the game in the sixth. After an infield single, Cassie Roche homered to center field to tie the game. Kelly Jurden and Casey Martin both singled to put the go-ahead run in scoring position. After a double steal, a groundout plated the go-ahead run.

Chassety Raines added an RBI double while Roche and Jurden contributed RBI hits in the seventh for the final four-run margin.

Roche led the Bulldogs from the plate with two hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored while Kassie Maddox and Jurden added a pair of hits and a run scored. Jurden contributed one RBI.

Kayla Oliveira (11-3) threw the complete game win in the circle for the Bulldogs, allowing two hits and two runs. Amberlee Nix (5-10) took the loss for the Ladies, allowing eight hits and five runs.

Centenary scored its lone run in game two thanks to a key Texas Lutheran error. With two outs in the first, Gillet reached on an error and scored on Sydney Hurley's double. The Ladies only managed a double the rest of the game.

In the second for Texas Lutheran, Maddox and Raines reached on one out hits before Skylar Ouelette gave the visitors the lead with a two RBI double. M Cates added a sacrifice fly before Maddox hit a two run home run in the third to open up a Texas Lutheran 5-1 lead.

Maddox added another two run home run while Bianca Cerda added a solo shot in the fifth.

Chassety Raines (7-0) picked up the complete game win, allowing only a pair of doubles and an unearned run in six innings. Hannah Scoggin (7-4) took the loss, giving up six hits and five runs in 2.2 innings of work.

Centenary returns to action Friday, April 26, in the first round of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Game time and opponent is to be announced upon the conclusion of the SCAC regular season tomorrow.
