KERRVILLE, Texas – Trailing by double-digits late, the Ladies were able to cut the deficit to one with 16 seconds left, but the Mountaineers made 3-of-4 from the charity stripe to close out the game as Centenary (5-14, 3-7 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Schreiner (4-16, 4-7 SCAC) 62-58 Friday night, February 1.

Trailing 59-47, sophomore Darelzray Bellard hit a three with 2:40 left in the game. Neither team scored for more than a minute and a half until a layup from senior Jasmine Morris. After a Schreiner miss, Morris made a triple with 37 seconds left. After another stop, Morris made a pair from the free throw line to cut the deficit to two. However, Schreiner was whistled for another foul. Sophomore Ashley Strawder split from the line to cap the Centenary 11-0 run.

However, Schreiner made 3-of-4 from the line and Centenary missed three shots from the field in the final 12 seconds as the home team held on for the four-point win.

Morris scored the most points in a game in two seasons, pouring in 22 – thanks in part to an 11-for-15 mark from the charity stripe.

Centenary held a slim 11-10 lead near the end of the first, but a 13-3 run put Centenary up double-digits in the second quarter. Sophomore Haylee Washington and junior Deunya Small made layups in the final minute of the first quarter as Centenary led by five heading to the second.

Washington finished with 10 for the contest for the Ladies.

Neither team scored in the first minute in the second before Morris split from the line and made a layup. Washington followed with a layup as the Ladies took a 20-10 lead. Schreiner's Kendall Dyal answered with a three, but Bellard and Strawder each hit a pair from the line.

Centenary led 30-19 at the intermission.

Schreiner trailed 34-25 in the third, but a 12-0 run in 2:24 span gave the home team the lead for good. Sydney Williams made a layup and jumper, followed by a three from Josline Hernandez. A Williams jumper tied the game and a three by Miranda Vallejo put the Mountaineers in the lead.

A jumper by senior Savanah Doty stopped the run, but Schreiner ended the quarter with 10 straight. Yasmine Arogunjo made a layup and Vallejo split from the line. Arogunjo then complete a three-point play before Williams made a layup. Two free throws by Dyal ended the quarter with the Mountaineers up 47-36.

Williams paced Schreiner with a double-double, scoring 23 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.

Centenary closes out the weekend against SCAC-leading Trinity Saturday, February 2. Game time in San Antonio is set for 4 p.m.
