SHREVEPORT, La. – Ladies Soccer finished off the sweep of schools from Jackson, Mississippi, scoring three goals and recording its first shutout of the season as Centenary (2-0) knocked off Millsaps (0-1-2) 3-0 at Mayo Field Wednesday afternoon, September 5.

"I thought we created some quality opportunities today in the offensive third of the field with three savvy finishes," said Ladies head coach Greg Cathell. "We'd love to convert them at a greater rate, but the buildup was very good for most of the day.

"Going in to this opening weekend of conference play, we've held serve, but division games are always very competitive. We need to come prepared for three very hard-fought games over the next five days," added Cathell about opening up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend.

The Ladies used a 6-1 advantage in shots on target and 10-0 edge in corner kicks in the first half to keep the pressure on Millsaps, but it was the first corner taken by junior Olivia Jackson that bore fruit in the 29th minute. Jackson served the ball far post and found sophomore Piper Beilke. Beilke passed across the box to junior Kyra Montes, who found the back of the net for her second goal of the season.

Jackson later added her first goal in two years in the 84th minute. She took a long pass from junior Emilee Byrd and ripped a shot off the crossbar into the back of the net to cap the scoring in the contest.

Centenary scored the second goal of the game in the 55th minute. Sophomore Pamela Fonseca ran the ball down the right side of the box, passed near the end line in front of the goal, and found junior Betzabet Bravo for the tally.

In goal, sophomore Maggie Pitcher and freshman Avery Sanderson split duties for the shutout, both taking a half and grabbing one save.

Hannah Johnson and Grayston Barron both put a shot on target for the Majors in their first loss of the season.

Centenary continues its five-game homestand Friday (September 7) against Texas Lutheran. Both the Ladies and Gents take on the Bulldogs, with the doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. with the Gents taking the pitch.
