SHREVEPORT, La. – The Gents Soccer team had early chances to get on the board, but the Pirates kept the game scoreless in the first half and found the back of the net in the second as Centenary (1-11-2, 0-10-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Southwestern (7-3-1, 5-2-1 SCAC) 1-0 Friday night, October 5.

In the early going, senior Nick Hammond placed a cross far post that caught the Pirates' goalie off guard. However, the Gents could not corral the cross. Sophomore Gin Pau weaved his way for a strike on target in the 16th minute, but Southwestern came up with the save.

Southwestern scored its loan goal in the 58th minute. Wil Mekelburg put a sideline throw in in the center of the box. Recent sub Luke Orren put the ball in the net for his first goal of the season.

Freshman goalie Sami Borchalli made five saves on six shots faced for Centenary, while backup goalie Alan Carr stopped all three shots faced in 61:49 for Southwestern.

Centenary returns to action Sunday afternoon, October 7, for its final home SCAC contest against Trinity. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
