Centenary Inducts Former Ladies Soccer Player Martha Chaney Siskron into Hall of Fame

SHREVPORT, La. – The first four-year goalie in Ladies Soccer history, Martha Chaney Siskron was inducted into the Centenary Athletics Hall of Fame Thursday night, November 8.

"This is a well-deserved honor for Martha," said Coach Glenn Evans, the founder of Ladies Soccer and Chaney Siskron's head coach all four years. "I was very lucky to find a keeper of such high quality and work ethic that was willing to join a first-year program. She was one of the main reasons our team was so successful from the very beginning, going 9-6-1 in our inaugural season. Martha was one of the most talented keepers to ever play for the Centenary Ladies. I am so proud to have coached this hard-working Lady."

Playing from 1992-95, Chaney helped the Ladies finish with a 50-22-3 record in the first four years of the program and a Trans-America Athletic Conference (TAAC) West Division Championship in 1994. She has her name firmly etched in the Centenary Ladies Soccer NCAA Division I record book. She holds the career record for saves (380) and shutouts (30), while sitting fourth in goals-against average (GAA) of 1.19.

However, diving into the season record book, the numbers are more astounding. Chaney holds the record for shutouts with nine, a mark she achieved in both 1993 and 1995. Chaney also set the original season mark for with 109 saves in 1993, a record she held for 11 seasons. In only three seasons in program history, a Centenary goalie has a GAA of less than one. Chaney accomplished that feat twice; 1995 (0.72) and 1993 (0.97). Here 0.72 GAA her senior season still ranks 12th in the Atlantic Sun (the current name of the former TAAC) record book.

A three-time All-Conference performer (Second Team in 1993 and 1994 and First Team in 1995), she was named to the TAAC All-Tournament Team in 1995. She was also named the TAAC Player of the Week once each in 1993, 1994, and 1995 – before separate offensive and defensive players of the week were awarded. She still ranks eighth in shutouts (23) and 14th in saves (302) in the Atlantic Sun record book (These marks do not include Chaney's freshman season in 1992 when the TAAC did not sponsor women's soccer).

But as accomplished as she was on the pitch, Chaney received just as much recognition for her successes in the classroom. In 1993, she was named Academic All-District by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She was also named a US Achievement Academy All-American Scholar in 1993. In 1996, Chaney received All-Louisiana and All-Region recognition for the "Winning for Life" Scholarship as well as the being named the TAAC Female Student-Athlete of the Year for 1995-96.

Finally, Chaney also made the TAAC Honor Roll her sophomore-senior seasons.

Martha Chaney Siskron becomes the second Ladies Soccer player to be inducted into the hall of fame, joining teammate Shelley Marusak Greenlee (2012).
