KYRA MONTES OF CENTENARY COLLEGE OF LOUISIANA, a junior forward on the Ladies Soccer team from Shreveport, Louisiana, has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Character and Community Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week beginning January 7.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Montes helps out in multiple ways in the local Shreveport community. She assists Holy Angels, which is "an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to providing love, support and empowerment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities," according to their web site.

Montes also volunteers with the Young Life program, helping mentor kids and teenagers in the Shreveport community.

Athletically, Montes has been very successful on the pitch for Ladies Soccer since joining the team in 2017. In only two seasons, Montes already owns the Centenary NCAA Division III career record for goals (17), points (41), and game-winning goals (eight). Named First Team All-Conference for the second straight season, Montes became only the second Ladies player in program history to accomplish that feat.

In 2018, Montes became the first player in 18 seasons to record a pair of hat tricks. She finished the season second in the SCAC in game-winning goals (six) and third in the conference in both goals (14) and points (33) – breaking the goals mark and ranking second in both game-winning goals and points in the Ladies' Division III single-season record book.

Following the conclusion of the season, Montes became the first Ladies Soccer player in eight years to be named First Team All-Louisiana by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
