Centenary wraps up the weekend on Sunday at Noon versus the Southwestern Pirates in Georgetown, Texas. The Ladies fell 3-0 on Sunday to the UT Dallas Comets in a non-conference match at Mayo Field in their most recent action. The Bulldogs have lost three in a row entering Friday's play. This weekend's matches, despite being against SCAC teams, do not count as conference contests.
The Ladies registered a landmark victory over the Bulldogs in their last meeting in Seguin, as the Maroon and White posted a 2-0 shutout win on March 27, 2021 to earn their first win on the Bulldogs' home field since the 2012 season and in the process set a division III era (2011-present) single-season record for shutouts in a season (seven). The Bulldogs then ended the Ladies' season with a 1-0 victory in the SCAC Championship quarterfinals at Mayo Field on April 17.
Centenary aims to get back to its winning ways after dropping Sunday's match to UT Dallas and falling 3-0 to Belhaven last Friday. The Ladies (2-4) and Comets (6-1) survived two separate lightning delays totaling an hour causing the match to last over three hours. The Comets took a 1-0 lead into halftime and then added a pair of second-half goals.
The Ladies are ranked third in the conference in assists with four, are fourth in shots, and tied for fifth in points. Centenary defeated St. Thomas, 1-0, in double overtime on Sept. 10 in Houston in its most recent road match. The Ladies have now won six of their last seven non-conference road matches dating back to the 2019 season. Centenary has allowed one goal or less in 14 of their last 18 matches over the last two seasons.
Centenary remains away from home next weekend to open conference play on Friday, Oct. 1 at Trinity in San Antonio, Texas followed by an Oct. 3 match at Schreiner in Kerrville, Texas. Centenary's next home match will be Friday, Oct. 8 versus St. Thomas at 5 p.m.
