The Ladies (3-4-2, 1-0 SCAC) opened conference play with an impressive 2-0 shutout victory over the University of the Ozarks Eagles on Tuesday evening at home. The Celts enter the contest at 4-1-2 overall and Friday marks their first SCAC contest. St. Thomas recorded a 4-0 victory over Centenary last season in the lone meeting between the teams, the Ladies' final match of the regular season and their Senior Night match.
Centenary, which defeated Tougaloo College by a score of 15-0 at home on Sept. 29, is now 3-1 at Atkins Field this season. The Ladies won their conference opener for the first time since the 2020 season and recorded their first conference win since Oct. 7, 2022 when the Maroon and White defeated Austin College 5-1 at home. Tuesday's win over Ozarks also marked the Ladies' first shutout in conference play since blanking the University of Dallas 1-0 on Oct. 9, 2022.
Centenary, which set a division III era (2011-present) program record for most goals scored in a match on Monday evening in the rout of Tougaloo, recorded its third shutout of the season and second in a row by blanking the Eagles on Tuesday.
The Ladies took a 1-0 lead on Tuesday night as senior MF Aubrey Burkhardt (Bossier City, La.) scored her second goal of the season in the 10th minute. Centenary took that 1-0 lead into halftime and the score remained that way until the 57th minute when sophomore MF Sarah Crenshaw (Alexandria, La.) scored her second goal of the season with double assists credited to Burkhardt and freshman F Jenevieve Willis (Bossier City, La.).
Crenshaw found the net for the second night in a row after scoring her first-career goal in the blowout win over Tougaloo on Monday. Willis, who recorded a hat trick on Monday, tallied her first assist of the season.
Sophomore GK Kaniyah Hill (Tyler, Texas) went the distance in goal for the Ladies and made four saves in her 90 minutes while recording her first solo shutout this season after combining with sophomore GK/MF Zoe Keller (Waggaman, La.) in Monday's.
The Ladies have scored 22 goals and tallied 18 assists this season for a total of 62 points. Thirteen different players have scored at least one goal and seven have scored two or more. Hill has made three starts in the net for the Ladies and Keller has made six. They have combined for 47 saves and Keller, who also plays in the field, scored her first goal of the season in the Tougaloo win.
The Celts, 1-1 on the road this season, defeated Mississippi University for Women by a score of 3-1 on Sept 22 in their most recent match. St. Thomas has scored 11 goals this season and tallied eight assists.
