SHREVEPORT, La. – Centenary head coach Caroline Carlton announced the 2018 Ladies Volleyball schedule on Wednesday. The slate includes 10 matches and an exhibition in the Gold Dome, six contests against 2017 NCAA Tournament teams, and the first ever matches against Johnson & Wales, which joined the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in the summer of 2018.
"I am excited about the release of our 2018 schedule," said Carlton. "With many similar opponents from last season, I am confident that we will be successful with this schedule. Our newcomers will create a more competitive practice environment, and I believe this will help us get better results in 2018."
The Ladies host NCAA Division II Henderson State in an exhibition in the Gold Dome August 29. Centenary begins the regular season with four matches at the annual Austin College Classic August 31-September 1. Following a midweek match at American Southwest Conference power East Texas Baptist, the Ladies travel to Conway, Arkansas, for a pair of matches against Hendrix and Central Baptist.
After a home contest against familiar Pelican State foe Grambling on September 12 in Shreveport, the Ladies hit the road for their first seven SCAC contests in a two weekend span. On September 14-15, the Ladies travel to Kerrville, Texas, to take on Trinity, Texas Lutheran, and Schreiner. The following weekend, Centenary treks to Georgetown, Texas, to face Johnson & Wales, Southwestern, Colorado College, and Dallas. It will be the first ever meeting for the Ladies against Johnson & Wales, while Colorado College is the defending SCAC Regular Season and Tournament Champion.
The Ladies kick off a four match home stand when LeTourneau comes to the Gold Dome to close out September. Centenary begins October against Jarvis Christian on the third and a pair of matches against Mississippi University for Women on the sixth. The following weekend, Centenary travels to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to take on Dallas, Johnson & Wales, and Colorado College. The Ladies conclude their SCAC matches away from Shreveport the following weekend with a tri-match in Sherman, Texas, against Austin College and Southwestern.
The Ladies host Louisiana College (October 22) and travel to Grambling (October 24) before wrapping up conference play, hosting a cross divisional in Shreveport October 27-28. Centenary takes on Trinity and Austin College on Saturday and Texas Lutheran and Schreiner on Sunday.
The Ladies close out the regular season Tuesday, October 30, when they travel to Hawkins, Texas, to take on Jarvis Christian. The annual SCAC Volleyball Tournament will be hosted by Dallas November 2-3 in Irving, Texas.
Coach Carlton and the Ladies volleyball team enter the season after qualifying for the SCAC on their own merits for the first time in school history. Centenary finished the season 15-20, the second-most wins in program history and the most since the 1999 season.
