Ladies Volleyball Readies for Conference Play

KERRVILLE, La. – Having won 4-of-5 matches entering the weekend, Centenary opens up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play in the first conference Cross-Divisional Friday afternoon in Kerrville, Texas, September 14.

The Ladies will battle #7 Trinity at 5 p.m. on Friday, followed by host Schreiner Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Centenary concludes the weekend against Texas Lutheran at 2 p.m.

Tough Schedule for Pre-Conference

While Centenary began the season 0-5, it has rebounded winning 4-of-5 matches. Centenary has played opponents that have a combined record of 53-47. However, 33 losses come from two matches against 11-loss Central Baptist and one against 11-loss NCAA Division I Grambling State.

The Ladies knocked off Grambling State in the Gold Dome for their home opener Tuesday.

Also, Centenary has played 8-1 Hendrix three times, including twice in Conway, Arkansas. The Ladies split at Hendrix last weekend, handing the Warriors its only loss of the season in a 5-set thriller.

 

Freshmen Among SCAC Leaders

Two first year players find themselves among the league leaders entering conference. Rachel Demerjian sits third with 7.51 assists per set, while Alyssa Davis is third with 87 kills.

Demerjian has six double-doubles (assists and digs) for the season, including in each of the last four matches. She has also been very close to the triple-double: She had a career high 45 assists, 12 digs and seven kills (hitting .438 in the process) at Hendrix September 7 in five sets. In her most recent match, she recorded 34 assists, 10 digs, and nine kills in only four sets (hitting .500).

 

Next Up

Centenary takes a week off before returning to action for a quartet of conference matches at Southwestern. The Ladies take on Johnson & Wales and host Southwestern on Saturday, September 22, finishing the weekend against Dallas and nationally-ranked Colorado College on Sunday, September 24.
