Ladies Volleyball Hangs Tough but Falls to #7 Trinity

KERRVILLE, Texas – Centenary (4-7, 1-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to #7 Trinity (8-2, 2-0 SCAC) in straight sets, 25-16, 25-19, 25-20 in the first conference cross-divisional at Schreiner Friday afternoon, September 14.

In the final set after falling behind 9-3, Centenary scored four straight to pull within two thanks to a kill by senior Michaela Brantley, two kills from freshman Lauren Kelley, and a kill from classmate Lauren Kelley.

In the second set down 3-2, a kill from Brantley put junior Marissa Sandoval on serve. Kills from freshman Alyssa Davis and senior Makenzie Shaw around a Trinity hitting error gave Centenary its biggest lead of the match at three.

Shaw led Centenary with six kills, while freshman Rachel Demerjian tallied her fifth straight double-double with 22 assists and 10 digs.

Trinity raced out to an 8-1 advantage to begin the match. A kill from Jade Schoenberger and Madeline McKay, combined with a Ladies hitting error, put the Tigers up three. After a Trinity hitting error, two errors by Centenary pushed the lead to 5-1. Another Schoenberger kill, a Madeline McKay ace, and a block by Sarah Williammee gave Trinity a seven-point lead.

Lindsey Lubianski paced Trinity with six kills.

Centenary returns to action for a pair of matches Saturday, September 5. The Ladies take on host Schreiner at 10 a.m., finishing the day with Texas Lutheran at 2 p.m.
