Demerjian Makes Ladies Volleyball History, Named SCAC Offensive Player of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - After a pair of double-doubles and a near triple-double in a win against an NCAA Division I program, Ladies Volleyball's Rachel Demerjian was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on September 17. Demerjian and the volleyball team went 3-1 on the week and started 2-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Demerjian becomes the first Centenary Volleyball player to receive a player of the week accolade from the SCAC.

In the Ladies' only non-conference contest last week, a four-set win against Grambling State in the home opener September 12, Demerjian recorded 34 assists, 10 digs, and nine kills. She hit .500 for the match, going 9-for-16 with only one error. In the straight-set loss against Trinity Friday night, Demrjian tallied 22 assists and 10 digs for her eighth double-double, and fifth consecutive, of the season.

Centenary finished off the week with a pair of conference wins on Saturday. In the sweep at Schreiner, Demerjian etched her highest assist per set total in a match of her career, finishing with 14 per set (42 total). To close out the weekend against Texas Lutheran, she recorded 45 assists to help the Ladies rally from a one set deficit for the win in four.

The win against the Bulldogs was the Ladies first ever in SCAC play and the first overall in seven seasons.

Centenary returns to action next Saturday and Sunday, September 22-23, for the second conference cross divisional in Georgetown, Texas. The Ladies will face the host Pirates as well as Dallas, nationally-ranked Colorado College, and the first ever meeting with Johnson & Wales.
