Centenary women’s volleyball head coach Ashley McDonough has announced her 2020 recruiting class.
The class includes 11 incoming student-athletes, seven from Texas, three from Louisiana, and one from California. Below is brief information and a quote from McDonough on each student-athlete.
Centenary senior Marissa Sandoval was named the Libero of the Year on the 2019 All-Louisiana Volleyball Team, it was announced by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association on Monday.
Sandoval (San Antonio, Texas) had a superb senior season for the Ladies as she collected 754 total digs, the third-highest total in the nation in division III. That number was the most by any division III player in the regular season and a Centenary division III era single-season record. Her 1,993 career digs are the most in program history in the division III era and she also set the record for digs in a single match (47) set this season in a 3-2 win over Schreiner on Oct. 19. Centenary also finished third in the nation in division III (first after the regular season) in team digs with 2,642.

The Ladies (10-20) lost to the Lady Tigers for the second time this season in five sets after falling, 3-2, at home back on Oct. 3. Grambling improved to 7-17 with the win. Centenary took a 1-0 lead in the match by taking set one, 24-16 and then Grambling edged the Ladies, 24-23 in set two. The Ladies claimed set three, 25-21, and then Grambling won a close set four, 27-25. The Lady Tigers then clinched the match with a 15-13 score in set five.

The Ladies fell to 6-13 overall while Grambling improved to 7-11. The Ladies started the match out hot, taking the first two sets (25-18, 25-22) but then Grambling responded with a 25-21 victory in set three and won the fourth set, 25-18. After a 10-10 tie, the Lady Tigers went on a run to end the set and win, 15-10. The match was tied 27 times and the lead changed 10 times.

The Centenary volleyball team defeated the Schreiner Mountaineers in a five-set thriller on Saturday afternoon in the Gold Dome on day two of the SCAC Group A Divisional Tournament.
The Ladies took sets one and three by counts of 25-18 and 25-21 and clinched the match in set five by a score of 15-11. Schreiner claimed sets two and four (25-20 and 25-22).
