Cedric Harris, Gents Basketball

Cedric Harris, a junior guard on the Gents Basketball team, garnered his second Centenary Athlete of the Week honor of his career Monday, January 14.

Harris scored a career high 34 points in the 81-61 win against East Texas Baptist Saturday. Senior teammate Treylan Matthews poured in 18 points in the first half - including becoming the 34th Gent to reach 1,000 career points in the first minute - to help Centenary lead by 23 at the break.

However, Harris had the breakout second half that helped the Gents keep the Tigers at bay win. He scored 19 in the second half, coming up big everytime the Tigers made a run at the Gents. When East Texas pulled within five, Harris nailed a pair of triples and a free throw to put Centenary back up double digits. Up 10, Harris helped put the game away when he jumpstarted a 7-0 Centenary run. He hit a three, and after a pair of free throws by freshman Ty Prince, Harris drained a fastbreak jumper.

The Gents jump back in to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action Friday night when they welcome Austin College. Tip with the 'Roos is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
