Patrick Meehan begins his sixth year as Assistant Athletic Director for Strategic Communications as he joined Centenary Athletics on August 5, 2019. Meehan supports and promotes Centenary’s 20 current men’s and women’s athletic teams and assisted with the launch of three new sports in the 2020-2021 academic year: men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s track and field, and competitive cheer and dance. Last Fall, Centenary athletics announced the addition of STUNT with competition to begin Spring 2025, and is the first collegiate program in the State of Louisiana.

He also assisted in the milestone announcement of Centenary's return to the gridiron in November of 2021 as football returns to the school this Fall. The Gents will play their first official NCAA season in over a half-century this fall and will face the Hendrix College Warriors at home on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. at Mayo Field in their season opener. The Gents are scheduled to play 10 regular-season games – five at home and five on the road.

Meehan, a Baton Rouge native who grew up in Shreveport, has worked in or close to the athletics industry at several different levels for the past two decades, and came to Centenary from his high school alma mater, Loyola College Prep. While at LCP, he worked in alumni relations, development, and athletic department fundraising from 2016-19. Meehan is also active with the school’s alumni association and is currently serving as past president of the Flyer Alumni Association.

Meehan began his career in sports information at LSU-Baton Rouge, where he was a student assistant with the LSU Sports Information Department from 2000-04 and had the opportunity to work numerous major athletic events, including five NCAA baseball regionals and three super regionals, the 2002 NCAA Division I Track and Field Outdoor National Championship, and two SEC men’s basketball tournaments. He also worked the 2004 NCAA Women’s Basketball First & Second rounds and covered the 2004 SEC Men’s Golf Championships in sea Island, Ga. During his days as a student assistant at LSU, Meehan served as the primary contact for women’s soccer, men’s golf, and men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and was the secondary contact for baseball.

After graduating from LSU in August of 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in general studies, Meehan spent a year as a media relations assistant at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). While at UAB, Meehan was the primary contact for the women’s soccer and softball teams and was the secondary contact for the football team. Meehan picked the right time to be at UAB as the Blazers enjoyed unprecedented athletic success in 2004-05 as the women’s soccer team won a conference tournament title and made the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history and the football team made its first bowl game appearance in school history.

Meehan returned home to Shreveport in August of 2005 to work for the Independence Bowl Foundation as a media relations assistant and then media relations/PR director for six years (2006-12). He coordinated all communications efforts for the bowl game and the foundation on game day and throughout the year as well as assisting in fundraising and advertising and marketing campaigns. Meehan also created a program called the “Kid’s Corner Youth Ticket Donation Program” which paired local businesses with non-profit organizations and agencies in the Shreveport-Bossier community enabling hundreds of disadvantaged youths the opportunity to attend the Independence Bowl on an annual basis.

Meehan has worked 24 NCAA baseball regionals and super regionals, numerous LHSAA championships, multiple NBA preseason games and NCAA Women’s Basketball First & Second Rounds held at LSU, and served as media coordinator for the 2011 NCAA Women’s Basketball First & Second Rounds held at the CenturyLink Center in Bossier City. Meehan was part of the game day communications staff for a pair of Sugar Bowls in 2005 and 2009.

In his first year at Centenary, Meehan covered both the 2019 SCAC Women’s Soccer Championship in Georgetown, Texas and the 2020 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship in Richardson, Texas. The Ladies soccer team had the best season in program history as they posted a 16-3 record and made the semifinals of the conference tournament. The men’s basketball team likewise completed one of its most successful seasons in program history and best in the division III era. The Gents won their first SCAC Tournament title to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history, as the Gents finished 18-10 and went 15-5 in SCAC play.

Meehan documented the run by the Centenary baseball team to the NCAA Division III Championship for just the second time in the division III era (2012-present) in 2022 as The Diamond Gents won the 2022 SCAC Tournament title on May 8 in Cleburne, Texas with a 10-5 victory over nationally-ranked Trinity. Centenary's memorable season came to an end on May 21 in LaGrange, Ga. when the Diamond Gents fell 14-9 to the Panthers after dropping a pair of games the day before to lose the "best of five" series 3-0.

The 2023-24 athletic year included two more conference titles and NCAA appearances as both the men’s basketball team and baseball team were crowned SCAC Champions and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Diamond Gents won the 2024 SCAC Championship in Cleburne, Texas by defeating Texas Lutheran University by a score 9-5 in the title game on May 6 and made their third appearance in the NCAA Tournament in program history.

The men’s basketball team had one of finest seasons in program history as the Gents advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in school history and finished 17-12 overall and 9-7 in league play during the regular season. The Gents finished third in the conference in the regular season to earn the No. 3 seed in the tournament – one which the Maroon and White had the pleasure of hosting at the Gold Dome.

The Gents, hosting the SCAC Championship for the first time since 2016, were fueled by a frenzied crowd three days in a row as they defeated Schreiner University in the quarterfinals by a score of 76-75, St. Thomas in the semifinals (64-51), and defeated Colorado College in the title game by a score of 83-76. Centenary fell 58-41 to the nationally-ranked Nebraska Wesleyan University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in San Antonio on March 1 but held the high-scoring Prairie Wolves to their lowest number of points scored all season.

The baseball team completed a memorable run through the loser's bracket in Cleburne by winning three-straight elimination games over three days to win their second SCAC tournament title in three years after claiming the title in 2022. Centenary finished 23-20 overall and went 13-7 in conference play during the regular season to finish second in the standings and was one of the country's top offensive clubs all season. The Diamond Gents went 0-2 in the NCAA Tournament as they fell 5-2 to the nationally-ranked and top-seeded East Texas Baptist University Tigers in Marshall, Texas in their opener and were then eliminated by the No. 2 seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags by a score of 10-5.

Senior Andrew Bennett became the first Centenary men's golfer to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the division III era (2013-present) and was named the SCAC Men's Golfer of the Year after he claimed the individual title at the SCAC Championships in Whitney, Texas in April. Bennett posted under par scores (71, 71 and 70) in each of his three rounds at the conference championships, becoming just the third player in conference championship history to do so, and his three-day total of 212 is tied for the third-lowest finishing score in conference history.

Bennett, one of six individuals selected to participate in the NCAA Division III Championships in Boulder City, Nev., and played one round before he was forced to withdraw due to illness. Bennett was also named a 2024 Division III PING All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America after earning a spot on the PING All-Region Team, landing on the Third Team, and is the first Centenary men's golfer to be named an All-American since Hal Sutton in 1980. He earned First-Team All-SCAC honors, was named SCAC Men's Golfer of the Week once, and claimed two individual wins, three top-five finishes, and a top-15 finish during the season. Freshman Aubrey Snell was named the SCAC Freshman of the Year as he helped form a dynamic duo for the Gents alongside Bennett.

Last Fall, Centenary athletics announced the addition of STUNT with competition to begin Spring 2025, and is the first collegiate program in the State of Louisiana.
