Competitive Cheer Announces 2020 Recruiting Class

Shreveport- Centenary Head Competitive Cheer, Dance, and STUNT Coach Ellen Reid has announced her 2020 Competitive Cheer recruiting class.

The class includes eight incoming student-athletes; six from Louisiana and two from Texas. Below is brief information and a quote from Reid on each student-athlete.

Audrey Laper, Lafayette, La., Top Girl

"Audrey brings great leadership skills to Centenary Competitive Cheer in more ways than one. She has been part of her high school cheerleading team for all four years where she was Captain for three of those years. She was chosen as an All-American for three years at UCA Camp, received the prestigious nomination for UCA Staff, and the Academic Excellence Award."

Caroline Swoboda, Metairie, La., Main Base

"Caroline is going to help lead the team with a lot of knowledge about UCA Nationals. Having attended UCA Nationals with Archbishop Rummel High School for all four years, Caroline was a part of the team that earned first in the nation in game day in 2018. In 2017 and 2019, Rummel won LHSAA State Titles. Centenary is also no stranger to Caroline, with her sister (Kaylin) being a member of the swim team."

Elise Quebedeaux, Mansura, La., Side Base

"Elise is coming to Centenary with UCA knowledge under her belt as well. Elise has cheered both competitively and school related during her time in high school. She was chosen as an All-American at UCA Camp which gave her two amazing opportunities. Elise got to cheer in the New Year's Day Parade in London and then the New Year's Parade in Rome."

Hannah Speight, Waskom, Texas, Side Base

"Hannah cheered for her high school all four years and served as Captain this past year. She brings competitive experience to the table as well, having competed in the Texas UIL Cheerleading Championships. Hannah received an incredible honor her senior year, being named only one of fourteen Northeast Texas cheerleaders asked to cheer in the FCA Heart of Champion All-Star Football Game."

Kayla Smith, Longview, Texas, Main Base

"Kayla is coming in with a huge competitive cheer background. Besides cheering all four years on her high school team, she cheered for twelve years at a well-known competitive gym (ETAS) in Longview. Kayla was Co-Captain all fours of her high school team, chosen as an All-American for two of those years, and also received the prestigious nomination of UCA Staff."

Mali Simmons, Natchitoches, La., Main Base

"Mali is bringing a lot of strength and energy to the team. She was a member of her high school cheer team and competitive cheer gym in town, as well as a member of the powerlifting team. In high school, she served time as Cheer Captain and led the way to winning the famous "banana" at UCA Camp which stands for the most spirit, leadership, and hard work."

Shelby Roy, Haughton, La., Top Girl

"Shelby is a very talented, hard-working, and motivated commit being added to this team. She cheered all four years in high school where she was Captain, all while playing four other sports. During her time in high school, Shelby earned many honors such as UCA All-American, Best Jumps, Best Leadership, and Best Dancer."

Stan Melton, Lafayette, La., Backspot

"Stan has many great qualities he will add to the team, on and off the mat. He has cheered for his high school for three years where he was a Captain his senior year. During high school he balanced cheer, swimming, and excellent grades, earning the Academic Excellence Award. Stan also earned UCA All-American, SCA All-American, and Outstanding Cheerleader 2019 and 2020."
