Ladies Gymnastics Records Big Win in Home Opener vs UW-Eau Claire

SHREVEPORT, La. – Trailing at the halfway point, the Ladies took the lead in third rotation and claimed 3-of-4 events for the meet as Centenary (1-3) knocked off Wisconsin-Eau Claire (0-2) 188.100-185.725 in the Gold Dome Saturday night, January 19.

Trailing by 0.150 after two rotations, the Ladies dominated in the final two rotations for the win. After a pair of 9.250 scores on beam for freshman Kendall Sanders and sophomore Jerrica Harris, a 9.400 from senior Elizabeth Sander pulled the Ladies within a tenth of a point. Junior Cami Bea Austin went 9.575 on the event to put the Ladies in the lead for good in the competition.

Senior Navia Jordan capped the beam rotation for the Ladies with a 9.600. Jordan went on to claim the win on the event, tying with Jordan Ehde of the Blugolds. Austin placed third on the event for Centenary.

The Ladies finished with a 47.075 on beam on the night.

Clinging to a 0.450 lead going into the final rotation, the Ladies used a season high on floor to win by more than two points. Sander started off the event fast with a career best 9.575. She ended up finishing third on the event behind Sanders 9.600 and Jordan's 9.700. Centenary finished with a 47.850 on floor.

Winning on beam and floor, Centenary also bested the visitors on bars, finishing with a 46.475 on the apparatus. UW-Eau Claire won on vault with a 47.150, 0.450 better than Centenary's 46.700 total.

Senior Tavia Smith won on bars with a 9.625, tying Hannah Lewis of the Blugolds. Smith also squeaked by teammate Sanders in the all-around, 37.800-37.750. Finishing the night, Smith finished second on vault with a 9.525.

Ashley Benes for UW Eau-Claire claimed the title on vault with a 9.575.

Centenary returns to action next Sunday at a quad meet hosted by Texas Woman's. The Ladies will also take on UW-Stout and UW-La Crosse.
