Ladies Softball Falls to #6 East Texas Baptist, 5-0

SHREVEPORT, La. – In the only non-conference regular season game at the Centenary Softball Field in 2019, Centenary (11-11) fell to sixth-ranked East Texas Baptist (24-1) 5-0 Tuesday night, March 26.

With two outs and no one on in the second for the Ladies, freshman Teri Johnson reached on an error, senior Margeaux Smith singled, and senior Payton LeBlanc walked to load the bases. However, a strikeout ended the Ladies threat.

No Ladies advanced into scoring position the rest of the game.

Smith and senior Wendy Gillet led the Ladies with two hits each. Senior Amberlee Nix (4-6) took the loss, allowing four hits and two runs in 2.2 innings of work.

After the Tigers managed only a single in the first two innings, MacKenzie Anderson hit a two-run home run to open up the scoring in the third. Beatriz Lara added a sacrifice fly in the fifth. In the sixth with two outs and two players on base, Hannah Garcia singled in a run before a Centenary error produced the final 5-0 score.

Garcia led East Texas Baptist with a hit in all three at-bats with two runs scored and an RBI. Presley Cox (8-1) picked up the win in relief, allowing only three hits but striking out 10 in five innings of work.

Centenary returns to action this weekend, March 30-31, when it hosts Southwestern for a four-game series. The doubleheader on Saturday is set for 1 p.m., while Sunday's doubleheader is set for noon.
