Ladies Basketball Falls to Austin College, 74-40

SHREVEPORT, La. – Centenary (4-12, 2-5 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Austin College (13-3, 6-1 SCAC) 74-40 in the Gold Dome Friday night, January 18.

Trailing by 69-29 in the fourth, Centenary went on a 11-3 run. Sophomore Bre Frierson made a layup and senior Jasmine Morris made a pair from the free throw line. After Austin College hit a jumper, senior Savanah Doty made a three. The 'Roos hit a free throw, but a jumper from sophomore Darelzray Bellard and a fastbreak hoop by sophomore Ethany Cosby after a Darelzray steal brought Centenary within 32.

Frierson came off the bench to lead Centenary with 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting. However, Centenary shot 30 percent (15-for-50) from the field and 2-for-16 (12.5 percent) from beyond the arc.

Austin College shot 51.8 percent (29-for-56) from the field and took advantage of a 30-15 edge in points off turnovers for the win.

The 'Roos scored 12 unanswered to end the first quarter and take a 20-6 lead into the second. Bryce Frank completed a three-point play, which was followed by a Reagan Chiaverini jumper. Natalie McCoy made back-to-back jumpers and Kacie West made a fastbreak three. Frank made a fastbreak layup to begin the second quarter as Austin College led 22-6.

Frank finished with a double-double (21 points, 12 boards), shooting 8-for-13 from the field. West came off the bench for 13.

Centenary concludes the regular season series with Austin College Tuesday, January 22, in Sherman, Texas. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
