Montes Second Hat Trick Lifts Ladies Soccer Past Louisiana College, 3-2

PINEVILLE, La. – Junior Kyra Montes' first hat trick was nice, so she thought she would do it again.

Montes netted her second hat trick of the season, scoring the game-winner in the final minutes as Centenary (8-3) knocked off Pelican State rival Louisiana College (1-8) 3-2 Tuesday afternoon, October 2.

With the trio of goals, Montes broke the non-scholarship era record for career points (36) and tied the career record for goals (15) and career game-winning goals (seven). She also sits second in the season annals in goals (12), points (28), and game-winning goals (five). Montes also became the first Lady in 18 seasons to record multiple hat tricks in the same season (Lara Brown with four in 2000).

When the Wildcats tied the game in the 86th minute, the Ladies came through with the quick answer. Just more than a minute later, freshman Amy Moreno played a through ball to Montes for the game winner. Moreno also found Montes for the first goal of the game in the 24th minute.

With the score tied at one, the Ladies found the back of the net right before half to take a lead into the intermission. In the 41st minute, freshman Gabby McDonald placed a corner kick in the center of the box. It went just past the outstretched hand of the Louisiana College goalie and landed at Montes' feet. She tapped the ball in to put Centenary up 2-1.

Ashlynn Folse scored in the 32nd and 86th minutes for Louisiana College.

Centenary outshot the Wildcats 10-8, including 7-4 in shots on goals. Freshman goalie Avery Sanderson made a pair of saves in goal for the Ladies, while Haley Clark grabbed four saves for Louisiana College.

Centenary returns to action Friday night for a critical Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference showdown with Southwestern. Kickoff with the Pirates is scheduled for 7 p.m.
