Centenary Women's Soccer Team Opens 2019 season on road

Shreveport – The Centenary women's soccer team will open its 2019 season with a non-conference match against LaGrange at Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss. At 5 p.m.

The Ladies, who started 6-0 to begin last season, posted a 9-6 overall mark and a 6-5 record in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play in 2018.

"With each new season comes new challenges and we look forward to facing those head on in making 2019 the best we can make it," said head coach Greg Cathell. "We have a talented group of returners and new players that have the ability to leave their mark on this program and that's always exciting."

Centenary was picked to finish fourth in the SCAC in preseason voting by the league's head coaches and is led by Cathell, entering his third season at the helm for the Ladies. A pair of seniors, forward Kyra Montes and midfielder Emilee Byrd, were both All-SCAC first team selections from a year ago are back to lead the Ladies. Montes is the league's leading returning scorer, having found the back of the net 14 times last season.

Following the Ladies' season-opening match on Friday they will face Belhaven on Saturday at 5 p.m. and then travel back to Jackson next week to square off with Millsaps on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 5 p.m. The Ladies open their home slate on Tuesday, Sept. 10 with a 5 p.m. match against LeTourneau at Mayo Field.
