Women's Soccer Remains Undefeated with 3-1 Victory Over Hendrix

Shreveport, La. - The Centenary women's soccer team remained undefeated with a 3-1 victory over the Hendrix Warriors on Tuesday evening at Mayo Field.

The Ladies (6-0) are unbeaten through their first six games of the season for the second consecutive year. Centenary has never won its first seven matches in a season, so the Maroon and White will look to make history on Friday at home against Austin College. The Ladies also started 6-0 in 1995 in just the fourth year of the program's existence.

Hendrix took a quick 1-0 lead in the match as Shreveport native Mary Helen VanHoy scored an unassisted goal. Centenary tied the match in the 28th minute of the first half as senior  Migui Boldrin (Ribeiaro, Brazil) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season off the assist from teammate Celests Muniz. Ten minutes later the Ladies took the lead as senior forward Kyra Montes (Shreveport, La.) notched her fourth goal of the season in just her fourth game. The beautiful goal featured two assists by Boldrin and Emilee Byrd, another Shreveport native and Caddo Magnet High product.

The Ladies took that 2-1 lead into halftime and then Montes struck again as the former Byrd High school star scored an unassisted goal in the 62nd minute for the final 3-1 margin. Montes was an All-SCAC first team selection a year ago after scoring a league-leading 14 goals.

Hendrix dropped to 3-3-4 with the loss and will face Birmingham-Southern at home on Saturday in its next match. The Ladies out-shot Hendrix on Tuesday, 22-11, including a 13-4 advantage in the second half.

The Ladies continue their longest homestand of the season on Friday as Centenary opens Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play versus Austin College in a match set for 5 p.m. Centenary defeated Johnson and Wales 4-1 on the road on Sept. 15.

The new playing surface at Mayo Field, installed prior to the 2019 soccer season, will be officially dedicated on Friday prior to the doubleheader against Austin College.

The celebration begins at 4:30 p.m. with a welcome and remarks by Centenary president Dr. Chris Holoman followed by the playing of the national anthem at approximately 4:50 p.m.

A pregame tailgate party, sponsored by SGA, will begin at 5 p.m. and at that same time the Ladies face the 'Roos before the Gents follow at 7 p.m. "Up with People" will perform at halftime of the men's match.
