Women's Soccer Sets Program Milestone In Victory Friday

Shreveport, La. - The Centenary women's soccer team made program history Friday evening as the Ladies defeated Austin College, 3-0, to improve to 7-0 in front  of  a large crowd at Mayo Field. With the win, it marked the first time in program history that the Maroon and White has started a season with seven consecutive wins.

The Ladies started 6-0 last season before suffering a loss in their seventh match of the season and also started 6-0 in 1995, in just the fourth year of the program's existence.

The new playing surface at Mayo Field, installed prior to this season, was officially dedicated prior to the doubleheader with a ribbon cutting and remarks by Centenary president Dr. Chris Holoman. A large crowd was on hand and enjoyed a pregame tailgate party sponsored by the SGA and "Up With People" performed later in the evening.

The Ladies took a 2-0 lead at halftime thanks to goals by freshman Sydney Bascomb (Mesquite, Texas) and sophomore Kat Martinez (San Antonio, Texas). Senior Migui Boldrin (Ribeiaro, Brazil) was credited with the assist on Bascomb's goal and sophomore Johana Anaya (Houston, Texas) assisted Martinez on her goal.

Boldrin capped the scoring with an unassisted breakaway goal in the 76th minute of the match, her team-best seventh goal of the season. Boldrin, a transfer, also has four assists this season and a pair of game-winning goals as she is making an early case for Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year in helping the Ladies sit atop the SCAC standings.

Centenary dominated statistically, taking 31 shots to just four for the 'Roos. Freshman keeper Karlie Delhommer (St. Amant, La.) started and made four saves to get the win before being relieved by junior Maggie Pitcher (San Antonio, Texas) after Boldrin's goal.

Austin College fell to 2-5-1 with the loss and has lost four straight matches. The 'Roos are at St. Thomas on Sunday.

The Ladies welcome the University of Dallas to Mayo Field on Sunday for a noon match. The Crusaders are 3-3-1 after a loss at St. Thomas on Friday.
